I just ordered the Coastaletech circuit that will get rid of the annoying "I Agree" button every stinking time you turn the car on, I wonder when they'll actually be sending the next batch out. My question is, what exactly will this do for me? I understand that it will get rid of the screen "I Agree" screen, and allow the nav menues to not be greyed out, but does it fix the crippling of the bluetooth phone interface while the car is in motion too?

I know I can put a button in the glove box to deal with this problem, but if this simple mod will fix both problems, the last thing I want to do is to rip my dash apart, and put a hole somewhere for a switch. Also, I see talk about a circuit that will simply disable motion input when the phone button is pressed on the steering wheel. Is that what I've ordered.

One more question, is it worth doing the Coastaletech EV switch instead of just running a wire to a switch on the dash? I see that for $50 or so, I can order the Toyota switch from japanparts. The Toyota dealer across the river (in Canada) said they might be able to order it directly too, though they I don't know their price yet.

This Friday it will be my two week anniversary. This is by far the most enjoyable vehicle I've ever owned. It's like driving a video game, and I'm getting better at it. 51 MPG on the latest tank of gas, 2/3 of it on the highway around 75MPH. I hear the gas prices have gone up some more, funny, I hadn't noticed.

Hi antieau, does that EV switch from japan parts work? Do you think it would be easy to install? Would be nice to have the factory switch.. if it's pretty easy to install. The Coastaltech option seems easy too.. but I little more expensive?

    thanks,

The Coastal NAV part does not affect the BT phone. They've said they may come out with something, but they've been very very slow getting product to market lately.

You expressed concern about dash disassembly. If you buy the OEM button for the EV you are basicly making your EV mod a do-it-yourself project and it will require soldering, assembling a plug, running a wire behind the dash. Coastal's solution is much cleaner and simpler and more 'invisible'. I'd consider the OEM button moderately difficult. If you look in the Knowledge Base area you can see instructions for the installation and decide if you're up to the task.

It's not the soldering, disassembly, or even the reassembly that bothers me. The reason I'm interested in the Coastal option is the invisibility. If, for some reason I need to take my Prius in for a real problem, it would be nice to just pull a couple splices and be pretty much untetectable. Truly, I'd rather have the OEM switch to fill in that annoying empty hole in the dash. It's not visibile while driving, so it's not a big deal either way. By the way, at $30, the Coastal solution is cheaper than the special order OEM switch at $50 or so.

Sounds like I'll be putting a switch in the dash for the phone hack. That's the one that I find most frustrating. I have found a workaround, but it's a bit painful with my T608 phone. I can make a call, then transfer it to the handsfree. It's a few keystrokes, but not the end of the world. If I could find a way to make the hands free the default while driving instead of the handset itself, then this would really not be that big a deal.

I think since I've already ordered the easy EV switch circuit from Coastal, I'll just go that route. It's a bit less effort, I've already ordered it. It's a bit more stealthy, so if I do have to go in for warranty work, even if I do leave it on, it's unlikely anyone will notice, unless, of course it shows up on diagnostics, but if that's the case, it doesn't matter which method was chosen.

Anyone heard from Coastal lately? I've had no feedback since placing my order, wondering how long it will be before I see my stuff.

Hey Lyle, first off I gotta say hi to "Grow Zeal".

I have already brought my Prius in for a driveline problem (ICE died while driving, limped in to dealership on Electric). The red triangle came on, and I left it at the late night drop off.

My factory EV switch was not a problem. The technician hooked up his scan tool, pulled the code, referre to a TSB that came out recently stating I needed the engine computer reprogrammed. He then reprogrammed the engine computer, restarted the car, took it around the block, parked it, and closed out the paperwork.

I showed the service writer my switch, and he said "Yeah, that's pretty cool."

EV mode still worked after the software update, and I haven't had a problem since.

Honestly, I was more concerned about tapping into the wiring for the steering wheel controls than installing an OEM part.

Good point, it would be harder to deny a claim if all done is install a Toyota switch and run wires where they're suppose to be run.

Also, I've looked around, but am unclear, has anyone found a way to get the light to come on when in EV mode? Maybe I'll go ahead and get the Toyota part and just be done with it.

Coastal EV kit $30? They have it listed as $45 on their website.

The bottom line of engaging EV is momentarily grounding one of the otherwise unused pins on the HV module. It doesn't matter how you create that momentary ground. OEM Switch, switch from radio shack (my method), high beam flash, Coastal mod that monitors CC cancel, driver door pin switch, etc. OK, that last one isn't very practical, but would work electrically.

You're right about the price, the cost is the same either way. It's worth a few $ to me to have that from-the-factory look, even if it's just for me. There's something cool about having that factory switch on the dash so the car looks the way it's designed to look. Anyone know about that light?
