Hey everyone, today I saw what I believe was a gen 5 prius LE with CLEAR taillights and was wondering why are mine red? Is it a modification, different spec, different manufacture location? I would love it on my car as well!

Prius HEV has red taillights, Prius Prime PHEV has clear. Lowest trim(LE/SE) only the sides light up, higher trims the entire strip lights up.

Switching from red to clear or vice versa is fairly easy, though a little spendy if you want to stay with genuine Toyota parts(I'm guessing around a grand after discounts). There will probably be aftermarket options soon(if there aren't some already) for less money at places like AliExpress or ebay(though buyer beware).

Salvage yards will eventually be a cheaper choice for genuine Prius parts, but wrecked Primes are wicked tough to find so far(I'm keeping an eye out because I want a set of Prime Softex seat covers).

Transparent red vinyl and a hairdryer can be an option. In my much younger days we wrapped much more complex shapes pretty successfully. I also sprayed the Scion FR-S tail lights with Nite-Shades translucent many years ago. About the same level of effort, maybe even simpler, but a lot less reversible. Held up really well to my surprise, btw.
