Well the Prius PHV was a flop lets admit that. I work for Toyota and it pains me to say but its true.

If you really worked for Toyota in the US (your location says Florida) you would realize the Prius Prime IS the plugin Prius and is known as the Prius PHV in some countries outside North America.

 

That is an odd statement.
Is there no difference between the gen 1 Leaf and Gen 2 Leaf.
From context, it seemed pretty obvious he was referring to the plugin Prius.

 

That is odd. Toyota stopped producing that with the 2015 model year. It is now 2018.
Why would @Erik Owens expect the plugin Prius to appear in a 2018 new car sales chart when there are no new plugin Prius cars except the newer Prime?

 

I don't think he did.
His first statement was that the PHV was a flop. If you take the PHV to be the plugin Prius, that argument could certainly be made.
After Bob's chart, in response to his statement, he commented that the PHV wasn't shown. I took that as, 'nice chart, but it shows nothing about the PHV'.

Bisco seemed to be of the same impression, that Erik was referring to the PiP as he commented about how it would have done better had it been sold nationwide (to which I agree completely).

I would think any salesmen would refer to the Prime as the ... Prime.

 

i'm still trying to figure out the point of the statement. was it a flop in cali (the point of this thread) during the years toyota pushed it, compared to the other ev's being sold there at the time?

what does it have to do with the fact that bolt is now the best seller?

 

Let it go people. The Prime is a winner and not the same as the PHV. Lets face facts and agree to disagree.

 

I drove a 2012 and 2015 Prius Plug-in (PHV) 70,000 miles and averaged a combined overall 80 MPG. My wife is still driving and liking the 2015. I looked at it as a more efficient hybrid Prius which by plugging in added 30 MPG over what the regular Prius would have recorded. While not many were sold, it was not advertised and only sold in 15 states, as earlier said. If gas prices had increased rather than decreased, probably more people would have wanted one. It carried more cargo than the Prime and 5 people, but reviewers generally panned it for the low all EV miles and driving capabilities at high speeds. To me both the PHV and the Prime are very efficient cars which avoid the need for finding and waiting at electricity plugs when away from home, something I just don’t want to bother with.
