I've had this car a year adding 20,000 miles to it and it was running perfectly before these lights and is still running perfectly and consistently getting 40-46 MPG based on my driving style.

I was Ubering the other night and while at a stop sign close to home the "Check Hybrid System Stop Vehicle in a Safe Place and these lights came on. Once home I did a Dr. Prius test which came back:

P0A80 - Replace Hybrid Battery Pack
    ABS: C1259
    C1310 - Mfg Specific
remaining battery life 24.7. (TESTED TODAY AND GOT 28.79% remaining

I cleared the codes and only P0A80 remained.

To be cautious and wanting more info I took it to Toyota and $175 later I was told they only for the P0A80 and recommended battery replacement - not at all helpful.

The attached screenshots of bar graphs were taken this morning on way into work.

I don't mind putting money into this car as my goal is to hit 500,000 miles as the car is clean and the head gasket was done about 40,000 miles ago. The water pump was done about 20,000 miles ago. I have no issues putting in a new battery if needed but I don't want to be overly reactive and waste money. I also don't want my family to get stranded or to break down on an Uber drive.

    What are your thoughts?

This is the car that you just had fixed The head gasket and the brake line and all that business correct? So in all those miles you've done nothing with the hybrid battery Is this correct? If so it's just that time so you're going to have to make a decision to find the battery guy like you did the that guy who fixed your engine or something along those lines or if you're serious about these generation threes buy a new battery You can put it in the next one so there's always that My battery got here in North Carolina charges me like 400 bucks He does really good work and I'm not great luck with his stuff so and so if some of my customers generally if I have the money for my personal vehicles I buy a new battery because they're going to be the same vehicles that I'm having so when one fades battery comes out and goes right into another one that I pick up at a tow lot or wherever I got it from so everything just keeps moving and generally a battery lasts 8 to 10 years unless you're trying to really kill it

No, this is not the same car that one is a 2010 and this one is our 2012. Both cars had head gaskets replaced :). Mileage and age wise it was the season for both of them. I've done no work on hybrid battery for either car though.

Question to you though. Aren't there usually symptoms when the hybrid battery is dying? Slower starts? Bad fuel economy? I've had no symptoms, just the light that came up once. Please let me know your experiences!

Why post in two different places on here? Moderator is going to delete/merge 'em.

I messed up. I didn't realize the first one saved. I would love it if they could be merged.

If you plan on keeping this 2012 Prius for longer than two years, it is time to buy a new OEM battery. If you plan on keeping it for less than two years, get a refurbished battery with a warranty.

Thank you. My goal after getting this fixed is to get it to 400,000 or 500,000!
