Check Hybrid System 2010 Gen 3

    tried All the work arounds from manual and forums here, Prius 2010 no nav,
    car displayed "Check Hybrid System", reset per manual 3-10 times off button etc... It will not go into "ready mode".. I check battery with volt meter looks ok, tried a jump start just to be sure, look at the little orange death plug in the back looked OK, but same "Check Hybrid System"





    Will try and beg for DTC code's and sub codes today and update

    Rodents? They didn't give you any DTC error codes? If not, ask them for all codes.

    I will today, and post back after I get them... when I talked with the rep over the phone, it was 7:00pm so that's quitting time.. Lucky to get him I guess!

    DTC P3004-800 they say this is the only code the are checking wiring???
    He said that was the only code.


    P3004-800 may I hope falls into the Recall on the firmware and "Inverter burn out"

    Harness is not covered but inverter and IPM (15 years)/unlimited mileage and/or Hybrid System is 8 years and 100,00miles so I understand

    on 04/16/2014 a E0E-REFLASH MOTOR GENERATOR & PO
    guess it was the firmware update for the fix (recall to fix burn out)

    They found the Inverter was defective, will install the kit to correct the problem...tomorrow!

    kinda mad as 2010-2014 then software update EOE-Reflash 04-16-2014, so for almost 4 years it pounded the Hybrid System, wonder about the HV part, finally the inverter failed causing "Check Hybrid System" totally dead Prius, the Toyota people were very nice but it took 3 days to find out what was wrong...
    They have to check HV battery, Compressor, wire harness, relays inverter, etc etc.... Before they can order the parts
    Loved the Prius! (Past Tense).

    Got the Prius today after 5:00pm (3 Days in shop) Looks like it is fixed

    890261 Power Module Intelligent Transistor Kit

    2 08887-02809 Grease X 23 7884 4
    1 04899-47060 Plug Kit, Inverter D
    1 08826-00100 Seal Packing
    1 90430-A0003 Gasket
    1 04899-47021 Transistor Kit, POWE
    1 G920J-52010 Sensor Sub-Assy, INV

    Found Internal Open With IPM REPLACED IPM for the Inverter with Converter 890261 2.9 17 71 69200-49075

    Inverter was opened and repaired, and applied "Transistor Kit, POWE"

    don't know from above if inverter was drained and refilled looks like but manager did know!!!
    It should have been changed as per Toyota because Inverter was opened.
    I'm sure the fluid was fried from Dec 2010 - Dec-2015 because of heat and burned elements in inverter....
    Happy with the car but have a gut feeling to sell it!
    Cost to me $zero which was a relief ! Car does have a funny smell to it! (Inside)

    Your coolant isn't fried. In the end one of Toyota's crap inverters died after the software patch and it was replaced with one that is covered under a partial extended warranty. What more do you want and expect?

    Good luck finding another vehicle that hasn't had mechanical or electrical problems that has stranded a driver. Perhaps Tesla's customer service would be a better fit for those working shift work. They will send a taxi and provide a rental when there is a problem with one of their cars.

    Another option would be to trade the car in every four years. I'm sure someone will be happy to have a low mileage Prius with a new inverter. Please let us know what your wife found that will make her happier.

    Maybe you guys can afford the high price you have to pay for parts, etc... I can not!
    You can not really work on the thing.
    The value of the car is reduced because of failures of this car and the cost of repair and parts.
    While it was running , instead of junking the turd, I traded it! I was lucky!
    Let some other rich person deal with head light wire harness, brakes, light bulbs, etc... and only 3 years and 40,000 left .... before you have to maintain the hybrid system and pay the big bucks..
    After 8 years this thing is ready for the bone yard and let someone else save a little money on spare parts!

    Thank god for a place to go and look for problems other people were having with the Prius saved me a lot of time and money and people do take advantage of you when in trouble....

    let's be honest. if you trade a prius for an f150, there's more going on than just repair costs.

    I can get under this and repair almost every thing! Long term the gas mileage not real great just a piece of mind!

    I know this thread is old, so I don't know if you'll get notified of my response; but, Clyde, buddy, you posting in this forum has saved me about $1,000. Dealer was trying to charge me for the transistor kit. Because I saw your post, I questioned him as to whether or not that should have been part of the recall. At first, he insisted not, but called me back later to say ooopsy. I want to emphasize that I don't know jack about cars, but the little bit of research I did saved me. $1,000 is A LOT for me. THANK YOU!!
