Yesterday, I was watching charging on ChargePoint’s website, and I noticed something curious:

A minute or two after the Entune App informed me that it was done charging, I saw this charging pattern:

    IMG_8427.jpg

Doesn’t look like it was *really* done charging!

Then, after a few more minutes, I saw:

    image001.jpg

I’d say the total amount extra it added after it told me it was done charging couldn’t have amounted to more than a half-mile, but...

it is odd that the app tells you it is done before it is done. i wonder if they did that purposely?

    the tail is typical.

Indeed: the tail is typical, from what I’ve seen and heard, but saying that it’s done when it’s really only aaaaaalmost done seems ... a little surprising.

agreed. either a programming fail, or intentional to get you off the charger

To clarify/emphasize, it was Entune, and not ChargePoint, who told me it as “done” before it really was done. ChargePoint alerted me to it being done charging a minute or so after it really was done. I’d think that between Toyota and ChargePoint, ChargePoint would have the most interest in kicking me off sooner.

Wonder if the AC/Heat Pump was running on while it was charging? Other than the drop off when the battery is nearly fully charged can't offer any other possibility....

Good question and thought there. It was at least not on a scheduled charge with climate prep, and the outdoor temperature was pretty moderate. I think not likely, but can’t say 100% for sure.

The only thing I can say is if you press the AC/Hold button with a full charge and the charger still plugged into the car. The charge light on the charge port does come on, but there is no power draw off the charger. I have tried it on a partial charge though, likewise the max it can take is 15A...so I would have to try catching it at the tail to see if the power draw goes up or not.

Anyway, sounds like I'm not missing anything with entune lol

I always (as far as my alzheimers permits!) just top off with Chargepoint chargers so I can keep running electric. Very often, the charging rate fluctuates a good deal, say from 3.36 to 2.08, or even 1.05 or whatever. In my situation, where I'm sitting doing busy work, waiting for my boost, I'm fooled by the charger, and end up having to wait considerably longer for my top off. I would say that currently as many as 2/3 of the chargers I've used here in Socal exhibit this erotic behavior (erratic is too boring!). I have switched to different Chargers in the same location, and some seem to work. I've called and complained, but nothing seems to be done.
Some chargers at certain locations ALWAYS work, and very well, so I know it's not the car. I charge at home with my L2 charger several times a day with no problems. If I were ALL ELECTRIC, I would be scared sh***ess! That infrastructure has got to be improved!!
Also, does anyone know of a 3rd party GPS unit, or app. that would always list charging stations and availability/condition for a planned trip? Tesla don't do me no good here!!

As far as an app on iOS there is Plug Share which seems to work pretty good.

Would the problematic charging stations be solar powered? Wonder if there's some sort of bottle neck if there were to be a lot of other cars charging.

Admittedly, I haven’t used it a lot, but from what I have used of it, yes, the PlugShare app appears to be for that purpose.

Not solar powered AND no cars anywhere near!! That was the initial excuse given to me by ChargePoint, that another car plugged into the same charger would diminish my charge flow. This has never been the case, I've always been by myself on a particular charger.
The apps I've studied don't offer a listing of available charge sites on a selected course. I want nearby chargers to "pop up" when I approach, while on a designated route. Also, it's against my religion to use Apple products! You know what happened to some guy named Adam who received an Apple from a woman named Eve: it was the beginning of the end for our world!! Har, har!

Maybe the track batt was done but the car was trickling into the battery and supplying energy to cool down the battery or even charging to non track battery

    Possibly.

That sort of tail-off isn’t particularly surprising, best I can tell. What’s curious here is that Entune announced that it was done charging when in fact it wasn’t yet quiiiiite done.

If I’d gone by Entune’s indication of completion, I’d have unplugged it before it really completely changed, or at least completed whatever it was doing.

    Preconditioning meaning running the AC.

I use Chargepoint almost everyday, and it's not running the climate control at that point. I see the same behavior where it tapers off and continues for a while. It usually uses 800W at that point. If I unplug it just after it tapered off, the battery shows 100% charged in the car, which is probably why Entune notified you. No idea where the extra energy goes after that, but maybe it's doing something like "float charging" the traction battery, or maybe it really gets to 101% and never indicates more than 100%. The percent charge doesn't correspond to the actual state of charge of the battery. There's probably a couple hundred watts just to power the 12V system, top off the 12V battery, run the fans that cool the battery, etc. Weber Auto showed about 25A load on the 12V system with the car in Ready mode with no major 12V loads running.

The commercial Chargepoint stations can "load share" an electrical connection that has limited capacity. The ones at my work can deliver 6Kw for the two charging ports. If two cars are charging, each gets only 3Kw. Other than this kind of limitation, my understanding is that current flow is determined by the charger in the car, per the J1772 protocol.
