Charging at work

I am currently able to charge at work but it not an ideal situation. I get to work at 3 am and start charging the car right away even though I don't leave until noon. That means the car sits for 6 hours, charged, before I drive home. I also have to move the car by 6:30 am because where I have to charge is not in the employee parking area. There is no plug there.

I spoke with the maintenance supervisor today about the plug we had been discussing putting in the employee parking. He said he had spoken with an electrical contractor and was getting a price for what it would cost to put a couple of charging stations or plugs there.

I asked if it was going to be 120v or 240v and he indicated that was some of the info the contractor was gathering. He also indicated that the contractor, who I know, may come to talk to me for info/opinion/advise, I don't know exactly what.

I have a vague idea about what is needed but not exactly. I'm sure there is an ideal setup, something passable and something unacceptable/unusable. I don't know if they are looking at full blown charging stations or just a couple of plugs. It may come down to what they are willing to spend.

I am currently the only one on our plant who has a plug-in but at least one of the company's plants in California has places to plug in. I'm not sure what their setup is or if it is applicable to our situation or even outdated.

If asked what do I tell the contractor and/or plant management?

    I use a standard 120 vac 20 amp outlet.

Soon I'm buying a 5"x5"x24" plastic outdoor enclosure with cover to hold a duplex box with 20 amp switch and 20 amp outlet. Then I can use the switch to power the outlet, plug in my Kill A Watt in the outlet, plug a right-angle appliance cord into the Kill A Watt, plug the charging cable into the appliance cable, and mount the CCID (Charging Circuit InterruptingDevice) of the charging cable in the box, to keep it out of the weather.

At least you guys get to charge it at work. I work for an utility company and there is nothing to charge on the parking lot.

    How stupid.

I would try for 240v at 32A or 40A so it's ready for other plugins in the future. It might be worth discretely finding out what is installed at the other site -- if it's a nice setup you can ask for something equivalent. A dedicated EVSE station is nicer than just a 120v outlet, especially in wet weather.

:)At home and at work. Leviton Level 2 charger on opposite wall at home. Just a 240v outlet on the back exterior wall at work using a 240v modified factory EVSE.

I changed the charge cable plug to a Right-Angle plug to fit under the weatherproof box.

At work I attached an outlet thru a piece of plexiglass. Inside it connects to an outlet with a KillAWatt.
    Do you like the sign???

At home I installed a yardlight with the outlet. Inside the garage the power comes from an outlet with another KillAWatt.

Yes, and they apologize and move when I get back from a trip or vacation.
