Did a bit of searching and could not find a definite answer... but if I change my own oil, will that void my warranty? I have heard that the Toyota oil is shit... and I change the oil myself on all my other cars... Its cheaper and I think you get to know your car better.

Anyway, If anyone knows for sure- I'd love to hear from you!

Also Mobil 1 seems to be the best?

If you maintain a good record of the work that you perform, and save the receipts for the parts and oil that you purchase, then you should not have a problem.

Regarding the discussion about Toyota oil, I believe that the criticism was directed to bulk oil that most dealers use for routine service, with concern regarding the storage of said oil and contaminants that might enter the oil. Toyota sells branded synthetic oil in quart bottles, and I have not heard any concerns about that.

Every time the oil and warranty issue comes up, I keep making one point. In your maintenance book (or even your owners manual), log the DATE, the oil used in the change, the oil filter change, and SIGN it. That makes it a legal document (if not in all lawyer's minds, it does in a number of jurors minds).

I agree, I also update my book every time and staple the receipt to the relevant page. I also do like you say I write down the brand of oil and weight and the brand of filter and the Filter Part #.
