Our 2001 Prius got a new catalytic converter two days ago. An half hour out of the lot, it went into safe mode! Now the diagnostics say we need a new battery for $2,800!!!!! Did Toyota mess up on the origional diagnostics or mess up on the repair? Shouldn't we get a full refund for the $1,600 catalytic converter repair? (We're getting rid of our beloved car now...the repairs are just too much. Especially since she has 189,000 miles on her).
Sounds like throwing good money at bad. I had a similar experience with my BMW. Loved the car hated the repair bills. Finaly gave up on it and it was a stress relief. Best to trade it in or sell it. I believe you can purchased a battery from a salvaged car for about $500 and have an independent shop install it if you want. But maybe it is timne to say goodbye. 189 K miles you got your monies worth.
Please post the DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes). Without them, we're flying blind. Also, in the future, please post in the correct area. The first model year of the Prius c was 2012.
If your Prius logged an appropriate DTC (such as P0420) then it would have been reasonable for the cc to be replaced and you should not expect a refund for that service. Replacement of the catalytic converter has no impact on the traction battery. It sounds like your car had more than one problem. Considering the minimal market value of your 12 year old car and the high price of dealer repairs, it is time to move on to another vehicle.
