Everytime i put in a tape it clicks for a little then it ejects. Any idea what i could do tk fix this? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
When I had my Gen 1, I once added a little audio accessory that could play from an aux input or an iPod. And having that accessory connected made the tape deck always immediately eject, because its little adapter harness was built wrong, and had the eject-button wire spliced to another signal. When I cut that wire, it stopped insta-ejecting tapes and worked a lot better.
That deck is now 17 years old. Despite my household keeping three different cars that long or longer (one is currently 30 years old), I don't believe any of their tape players functioned that long. Replace it. (Deck or car, your choice )
It's a little difficult to replace as it's a proprietary configuration and built right into the dash & radio. There is a CD player that plugs right in and fits in the bottom pocket of the dash. They work rather well even these long years later. Besides you really don't want to disturb the center dash. After all these years, it's more fragile than dry pasta and tends to shatter.
You need to convert all your tapes to CDs. Once you have done that you want to rip the CDs to MP3. Then you want to get an iPod and an adapter for that. But you could skip right to a USB input for your phone or even a Bluetooth connection. You'll have to upgrade your car to get some of these. Mike
But then the iPod adapter was the exact thing that made my cassette deck always eject. Ophelia, play "The Gas Man Cometh" by Flanders and Swann.
