Carbon in the engine

How did you confirm that there is carbon in the engine?

 

There is all kind a engine oil flush fluids what do the job, but ive been told that after flush it is important to take oil pan out and clean it also. Flushing puts all the stuff moving and may do damage if all that stuff is not taken away.

 

I use BG Products EPR before draining the oil to remove engine deposits. You can buy it on Amazon.

Once the EPR is placed in the engine, run it for 10-15 minutes at idle, then drain it. The oil comes out jet black every time.

This is using high quality oil every change (redline, pennzoil pure platinum, Mobil one, etc) just to ensure things stay clean.

One option to consider.

 

Forget it.

Some carbon is deposited inside the engine in various places and as long as it isn't excessive, which it almost NEVER is, it is normal and won't hurt anything.

Of course, the companies marketing "snake oil" carbon removal chemicals will try to make you think a little carbon is the END OF THE WORLD. It isn't and you don't need their products.

 

Maybe instead of removing the oil pan: just use the treatment, then do an oil change (thoroughly warmed engine, let it drain well). Drive for a few days, and do a second oil change. Examine the drained oil both times; judge from the particulate if it was warranted.

 

Oil pan remove was suggested because there is also steel mesh thing where oil is picked from oil pan and that can get plugged.
