Car stored 2 years. Both batteries dead. Replaced new AUX battery. Do I need to charge the HV batt?

    (Sorry, posted my mistake in Gen III F:mad:orum). Car was damaged in a front end wreck. Took me years to repair it myself. HV and AUX batteries dead. Replaced AUX battery. Won't start, but may have other issues (will deployed airbags and seatbelt retractors prevent READY LIGHT?). All dash lights will light up, but only the ABS and Airbag lights stay lit. I did a manual brake bleed myself but I think I need a professional with a scan tool to bleed them. I think the ABS is preventing the READY LIGHT. Assuming the other issues are not preventing the READY LIGHT, do I need to charge the HV battery? What's the best way (I prefer to avoid the dealer if I can)?

    You absolutely need a Prius technician to do the brake bleed. You'll never get all the air out without their proprietary scan tools. Ditto with the traction (HV) battery. It requires a Toyota-proprietary charger.

    if you dont have the battery warning on the MFD and the vehicle wont start the problem is elsewhere, on cars where the HV battery is "dead" it would not start but there would be a icon on the screen with a battery symbol.

    get a CAN reader and erase all codes see if they come back.

    Thanks guys. I don't see a Battery Symbol on the MFD. No errors on the MFD at all. The dash shows airbag, ABS, and Traction Control lights.

    I finished rebuilding my Prius after it was out of service for 6 months. The NIMH battery was OK. You can check it with a volt meter at the battery by opening the cover behind the drivers seat on the battery back and measuring the voltage between the two large posts on the passenger side of the relays. If you have 180+ volts you are OK. After 6 months, mine was down to 202 volts.
    I needed an Autoenginuity scan tool with the Toyota software. I think it is the only tool that will read all the Prius codes.

    Thanks Vertex. Please describe in more details where to measure the NIMH battery voltage? Is the cover on the car floorboard behind the driver seat (and in front of the rear seat)? I thought the batt pack was behind the rear seat?

    It is behind the rear seat. There is an access panel on the drivers side that can be removed with a few bolts. If you are not sure, I can take some pictures (probably tonight) and upload them for you.
