car seats and other family business

    So we are most likely picking up a new v and we have a 1.5 year old who is still in a rear facing seat. I test drove the car and put one of the car seats in and loved that I did not smash my head on the roof of the car when putting it in...but....I was wondering from those of you with small kids out there who have a v, how is it holding up as a family car? we are coming from a 2010 Suzuki kizashi as our main hauler. We were originally going for a rav or 2012 but got bitten by the hybrid bug...you guys think this car will sufficiently be able to be our main family hauler for two kids and a 50 pound dog ? We pack an average amount of stuff whenever we go away....how is the room with a Couple of car seats in there? The rav seems to have much more space to me for some reason even though dimensions are not all the different from the v...I want to know from you young families what you love and hate about your v before We make our final decision. Please excuse my terrible iPad spelling and grammar...I am normally very good about it. Thanks!

    We have a 14 month old and just went on a road trip from Northern California to Souther California last month (no dog though). With one kid and a rear facing car seat, there was PLENTY of space. We aren't light packers by any means, we had 2 large duffle bags, a Baby Jogger City Mini, a Pack and Play, booster chair, camera bag + other small accessories, and 2 bags of Christmas presents. All of that fit in the trunk with no problems so we had all 5 seats open and my wife could freely move between the front and rear to tend to our son when needed.

    That being said though, I can see 2 kids and 2 adults plus luggage doing fine on a road trip, but add in a 50lbs dog, and you will not have much room for luggage. We also thought about the RAV4, but after taking a closer look at the our friend's, we decided the Prius v was better for our needs. Basically what sold us on the v instead of the RAV, even though they have similar cargo space, the cargo space in the RAV wasn't very deep, it's just very tall. We much preferred the deeper trunk in the v.

    What I like about the V is there is lots of space in the middle seat. The kids have space between them. I hope that helps. Our whole family went to a Christmas Tree farm and we fit a small tree in the trunk area with my sons in the back seat. Lots of legroom in the backseat too. The back seats slide forward and back easily. :)

    I would think when choosing a car, you need it to cover the needs 99% of time. For the 1% left, that is, twice a year trip to wherever, however long, just rent a bigger van. Just my two cents...

    Thanks guys for all the info. Now all we have to do is decide on either red or blue....I think I may put a hitch on it since I am a cyclist, and buy one of those Thule rear mount cargo boxes that mounts to the hitch for extra long hauls with lots of stuff. I love how the hitch does not require drilling. These cars are fantastic for so many reasons.
