    New owner of 2006.

I was programming my car to open my garage door today and had to push the button on opener motor since I have rolling type...

I was in my garage where my car usually is....and so, it was unlocked.

When I leaned against the top of the car to touch the button on the motor for garage door opener,

The car locked...I could hear the beep!

I thought it was my SKS...but that was in the family room...(after one try, realized I needed to Power up the car in order to complete the programming)...

So...if I leave the car and forget to lock it and someone leans on it, it locks????

How far away is the family room? I have to have the key on me to lock it and you cannot lock if the key is in the car.

Not that I have noticed. Try to repeat what happened. If you can't just chalk it up to quantum weirdness.

If you unlock it and don't open a door it will re-lock its self in about one minute. But you said it was already unlocked, so who knows?

Yeah, i have to have my key literally "on me", i.e. in my pocket, hand, etc. If its in my briefcase in the backseat, it won't start. I guess, at least for my car, the fob has to be really close. :D

I'll try it again tomorrow. The key was only about 12 ft. away from me inside the family room and I was standing on a small chair and leaned against the roof...and I heard the beep and the doors locked.

The car was unlocked for sure and ...of course, I needed to go ket the key to power up to program the garage door opener....

Every time I program all this stuff, I keep thinking some of it won't work...I have three ways to open the garage...a key pad entry, the car now, and a hand-held remote...they all work.

It was the top of the car, though, that I leaned against.

I suppose it's remotely possible you acted like an antenna for the SKS system. It then noticed the key, then that the key was "away" (as the signal faded) and locked.

The car I test drove (06 Canadian Package "B") locked and unlocked as I approached and departed. I did it several times as it startled me. I wanted to see if it was coincidence or if it really noticed my movement.

My 2006 with SKS will not lock unless the fob is close by. I am not sure what the minimum distance is - has anyone experimented with this?

if you unlocked the car.. and left it alone for 30 seconds.. it will automatically lock again.

oh yeah.. and for the FOB.. it only has a range of about 30 feet.. give or take depending on conditions.

Yup - to use the SKS to unlock the car, the fob has to be within about three feet (1m) of the door you're trying to unlock. Using the button on the fob will work from quite a bit farther away, but the SKS unlock will only work on the button that's within three-ish feet of the fob - a good security feature. As an example, my daughter's hand on the passenger handle won't unlock the car if I'm at the driver's door, but it will if I'm standing behind her. Same thing for starting with the SKS - the fob has to be within about three feet of the center console.

OK...so I left the car unlocked, took the SKS into house way away from car and within 30 seconds, the car was locked...so that's working.

Also, the anti-theft light concerned me since it flashes constantly when the car is unlocked...for example, all night in the garage.

Initially, the car would stay unlocked all night....

I took it to Toyota, since I didn't recognize the light. When you lock the car with the SKS, the anti-theft light comes on and stays on.

The service man at Toyota said he was puzzled that it continued to flash all night....he didn't think that was good, but had no clue, except to tell me to lock it so I activate the anti-theft light. He did something...to check it...but now it seems it DOES lock and set within 30 seconds.

The key was just a few feet away when I leaned up against the roof ...I heard the beep and the car locked. I think it had just timed out for being unlocked and locked

I'm supposed to go on Tuesday re the poor mileage...but it's only my first tank and since it started out at 26 mpg...I am now up to 32 mpg...which means that in order to get that "average" I must be driving at a higher mpg to compensate for the original 26 mpg at beginning of first tank. I'm going to log it.

So everything seems to be working...will wait before I take it in to talk about mpg...this forum has been a huge help. I am able to dead screen for periods of 30 seconds or more at a time when I get between 30-40 mph.

The read light on the dash will flash all the time when the key is not in the car (unless it is running). It is supposed to scare thieves away and let them know you have a security system.

Are you saying the car automatically locks when you walk away with the SKS? I leave mine unlocked in the drive way at night and the SKS is in the house. The car is not locked when I go out in the morning.... Is it supposed to be?

If you lock the car it should stay locked until you unlock it, period. If you unlock the car but don't open a door or the hatch it will re-lock its self in 30 seconds. Likewise if you leave it unlocked after you have had a door open, such as you describe above, it should not lock its self unless they have changed something from 05 to 06.
