I need some help tracking down a problem I have with the Can-View V4.

At least once during a trip the screen will go black for about a second and come back on. When it goes black I can still see that the LCD back light is on so the LCD should be working. Since the light is on this leads me to believe that the problem is with the Can-View. This happens on about 90% of the time on each of my trips.

The only time I see this happen is at night or when there is little sunlight out. The reason for this is that the screen is hard to see during the day and I would have to be looking directly at the screen the whole time to focus in on it. Driving at night or when the screen is nice an bright makes it a lot easier to see this glitch out of the corner of my eye. I assume this glitch happens during the day because it almost always happens at night.

Here is the info I have so far on this glitch.

It always happens between 5 and 25 minutes into the trip. When I mean trip I mean when I power on the car each time. Starting from power up it could take anywhere from 5 minutes to 25 minutes for the glitch to appear.

I've only verified seeing it at night with night mode enabled in the Can-View settings. I will be running some more tests with that mode disabled to see if there is a difference.

I'm always on the first text screen when the glitch happens. I'm on the first text screen 99% of the time because it has all the info I need for driving.

My auto off is set to 1 second but I tried changing that to 16 just to see if maybe the black screen would stay on longer but this had no effect on the length of the black or when the glitch happened.

Like I said I think the problem is with the Can-View but I cant confirm this because I do not have my PC ready to install yet. If I had my PC installed I would eaisly find out if it was the screen or the Can-View giving the problem.

I know I'm the only one with the motorized screen with the V4 but it would be nice to hear from other V4 owners if your having similar problems.

You know by now that you need a second source of information to feed the monitor to properly compare and test.

Also could be a static buildup glitch the one that makes this annoying thing to happen. Software from CANview?, very rare, you have an static page at all times and you do not switch it around.

Check your grounds or make it better. ;)

    Hi thforce

If it helps, I have had no symptom like yours.

I didn't see your post at first because I was visiting eflier to have my V4 reprogrammed. I was having a glitch with my onscreen EV switch. He made it look very simple!

The reprogramming put my EV AUTO/MANL at the bottom of every page when it had been at the top of the relay setup page. Is that the ways yours looks? Now it works fine.

Well I tried a few days with the day mode always on and it still blacks out for a second at random. I did see it black out with in the firs two minutes the other days also. It also blacked out while I was on the trip screen.

Yeah it looks like I will have to get another video source installed to confirm which device is causing the problem.

I doubt that it would be static buildup. I have never shocked myself in this car and I'm always a good cairer of large static charges during the winter. On a good day I can produce a 1 inch spark. B)

Well I did find an error with the Can-View's software (or at least I think it might be the software ) Where it was getting false touches form the screen. Norm has temporarily fixed in the current software by ignoring the false touch so anything is possible. This could be hardware or software. I just dont know for sure which device is doing it yet.

I grounded everything that should be so it should be OK.

Yeah mine is at the bottom of the screens. I think that was added a few revisions ago.

    Hi "theforce"

Did you give Norm enough information so that he could attempt to duplicate your problem? It sounds like a random break in signal or power. It could be as simple as a loose connection somewhere. I am quite sure that he will work with you to find and repair the problem. He sets a very high standard for customer satisfaction if you give him a chance.

I did email him about this but since this is a very random thing I dont want him to spend time on it right now until this can be replicated or until I can find the actual cause.

Its really not that big of a deal because its only black for about 1 second plus I have not seen this happen more than once during a trip.

I havnt seen this issue for a while now but it sounds like other people are having the same issue with their V4. I hope they will post some information here to help diagnose the problem.

I dont know if I just got used to the blank screen or if it has gone away but I havnt noticed it for a while now. The last time I noticed the issue was a few months ago when it was much colder out. I also check for updates frequently and update right after I fill up the car with gas. I do it that way so I dont loose my current tank data. :) I currently have the latest V4 installed CAN Code may147. I also installed the relays and serial option but I dont have the plugin stuff for my car.

If the blank screen has disappeared for me it has been either...

    1. I just dont notice it.
    2. It has been fixed with the latest update.
    3. Its temperature related.

If your having this issue please post any information you can so we can figure out what is causing the issue.
