can the power be switched off while driving (at high speed?)

    i accidentally pressed the park button while in a garage (going around 1-2mph at the time)... the car came to a sudden stop!! any how, what happens when you turn the power button or shift to reverse when driving?

    I wouldn't recommend trying it, but presumably the electronics wil realize that conditions are such as a catastrophic failure would result, and not acknowledge the errant input.

    I posted this out on the Yahoo group awhile ago...haven't checked in much over the holidays and such. It is SO unwieldy...thanks to the Danny for this site.

    Anyhow, back to my post. Run this little experiment...with the engine running, put it in P and floor it. What happens? Absolutely nothing with the drive by wire.

    I'm ASSuming that much beyond the 1-2mph of putting the Prius into P that it would ignore the request.

    Adding a question to that ...

    Say I have smart start/entry.

    Say I'm driving and I throw my fob out the window.

    What will happen? Will the car shut down then, or just run normally until you put it in Park and then it will cease to function?

    Mind you, I'm not trying this ... just curious. Like how I'm curious what would happen if you put a fish in carbonated water. (I think the dissolved CO2 would kill the fish, but I'm not about to find out.)

    I accidentally hit the Park button when going about 50 mph. The car went into neutral. I just shifted to drive and keep going. No bumps or grinds or jerking.

    I believe above 6-8mph (10-15km/h) or so, it disables. Pressing power or park will drop it to neutral.

    I believe pressing and holding Power while at speed will cause the car to drop to accessory mode but not shift to park. The NCF went into great detail on it, but I'm on the wrong computer to check right now.

    I believe this question was asked in YG and the answer was that the SE/SS feature only starts the car and nothing would happen. Imagine if it was required and you had it in your pocket but its battery went dead during your commute? Couldn't really have the car slam to a halt now could we? :)

    Good to know. I've wondered what would happen if I were carjacked or something like that. I'm guessing it's best to keep the keyfob on my person so that if I do end up surrendering my car, they'll get away (always give them what they want) but won't be able to do anything with it once they turn it off.
