can studdable tires be studded no matter how old??

    well as the title asks I'm wondering if there is a point in a tire's life in which studs can no longer be inserted into a studdable tire?

    the reason i am asking is regards to recycling. If we in the snow belt all bought studdable winter tires and drove them a few years w/o the studs until they are say halfway worn down, could we then sell them to people in Canada, Alaska, Dakotas and anywhere else that is legal to use studs and will the tires still be usable for a few more years???

    I know a lot about winter tires but being from Michigan I don't know jack about studded tires so why don't some of you guys educate me on this matter.

    It can be done. Takes time to clean out the holes. Most places don't like to bother with you! Hal

    Most places won't do it. They say that you can hydralic and cause leaks from stuff still being in the holes. An alternative is this place....they make studs that you can stick into ANY tire, MC, bike, shoes, or what ever! The HM11 would work the best for cars. The last place that did mine did not stick them in far enough, about 1/4th flew out and they gave me the $40 back that I paid. I will be ordering the HM11 to replace the ones lost. The other neat thing about these is that no special toolsa re needed and they can also be removed!

    These can be put onto any tire out there, not just the ones that have the stud holes.
