Can I swap the headlights?

You probably have a Canadian spec 2005, as the US version does not have daytime driving lights. The US version can have the "fog" lights in the lower grill, but they can only be turned on with the main headlights.

Maybe someone with a Canadian spec car should comment, but I think the Canadian "driving lights" are the main headlights operating at reduced power. US spec cars imported into Canada probably use the fog lights with wiring modified to allow operating without the headlights.

Since the HID headlights can't run at reduced power, they are not used as driving lights.

Does the German car have "fog" lights in the lower grill? If so, then the simplest change would be to rewire them to allow operation independent of the headlights.

 

Go to Darell's Electric Vehicle Page . Select "Prius" from the menu on the left. Then select "Mods" from the top menu. Select "Fog light only mode".

If it's more than you want to do yourself, you'll probably have to find an independent mechanic to do the modification. Dealers tend to insist on official procedures, which this is definitely not.

 

Toyota changed the headlight slightly starting with 2006 model. The exterior look was changed... I am not sure if they are physically compatible.

 

My Canadian model has daytime running lights (halogen) and fog lights and an auto sensor that turns the lights on when it gets dark if the lights switch is in the auto position.

 

Do the amber colored turn/parking lights qualify as driving lights in Norway? If so, then this may be the easiest solution.

One way to recognize the HID lights is that they are extra bright when you first turn them on, and then dim back to normal after a fraction of a second. HIDs don't work as driving lights, as they can't be run at reduced power like halogen ones. If you have HID and fog lights, then I think the car must be US spec.
