Can anyone in Seattle Area comment on SSC 40D work done?

    Anyone had any good or bad experiences with the SSC 40D rework done in the Seattle/Eastside area? I just got a 2nd letter from Toyota requesting this work be done and I'm reluctant to have any dealer even touch my oil-pan nut or filter, let alone re-program the crucial code in my ECU. That's like handing you PC's motherboard to an auto mechanic and asking him to re-flash your PC's BIOS ROM.
    Anyway, can anyone out there recommend a Seattle dealer who has done this with minimum damage ???

    Geez, a firmware upgrade ought to be the least risky service that could be performed. Just connect the computer and press Enter. This is much better than if, god forbid, some real problem occurs which the tech can't correctly diagnose because 40D was not performed, and then the tech has to start fiddling with real mech parts instead of just zeros and ones :_>

    It would seem that way wouldn't it. The thing is that you can drain the battery doing this and it's necessary to put the battery on a charger. Also, the ECUs of a few people somehow got fried during the SSC-40A process--though I never heard if it was due to error on the part of the service person or had more to do with some fault in the equipment. My SSC-40A 45minute upgrade took 3.5 hours!! :cussing:

    There are plenty of things that can go wrong, and, for something of such low importance as this, I would prefer to 'not' be the first one the service dept. did.

    procedures for computer hardware. it is not the same as
    a software update.

    Someone clue me in: what is an SSC 40D repair? Am I missing something?

    Hey, no apology required, it's not your fault. The tool ought to do it by default.

    It's also just peachy that one now must enter a *name* for each link, not just the url. (Sheesh. Web-based BBs are like newgroups re-engineered by Microsoft.)

    I just stylistically prefer hidding it under a name.
