I would like for Prius c owners to please post the results of their mpg observations. This is meant as a way for prospective buyers to gain insight in the c mpg capabilities given different conditions. We often field a large number of posts from new owners asking if their mpg numbers are normal. This thread could help them determine whether their numbers abnormal or not by comparing with other owners who drive in similar conditions. This is also a good place to brag about your best tank! I encourage you to use the Fuelly.com website for keeping track of your mpg, total fuel usage and costs. It can be very helpful in tracking trends in mpg, fuel cost or changes you have made in driving style or mods.

Please list your results using the following format:

    Year of vehicle:
    Date:
    Miles driven:
    Gallons Pumped:
    Hand-Calculated MPG:
    Displayed MPG:
    Average Speed:
    Tire Size / Wheel size:
    Tire Brand / Model:
    Tire PSI (Front / Back):
Seasonal Conditions: (please include A/C usage and temp setting if applicable)
    Commute Length:
    Hypermiling Techniques:
Other: (this could explain why a tank was bad or good or other unusual conditions like a rain storm, new tires, lots of short trips, etc.)

I'm trying to get real world numbers from my C b/c I'm curious how accurate the ratings and MID are. But I've had it for about a week and driving daily, but have not even reached half a tank yet!

Why is it that no Prius C owners have posted in
this forum format. I am sure by now somebody
    has sufficient data.

    That misses the point. :)

Please see the threads in the GenIII and v forums. Believe it or not this type of thread is helpful for those who know what they are looking for. Fuelly just doesn't cover everything we need for analysis.

    Prius c Four w/ 16" wheels.
Driven 488 miles on tankful #1 (averaged 59 mpg); 80% New England highway miles (drive 50 miles each way between work and home).
Tankful #2 so far is just over 420 miles (with just under 3 gallons remaining).
--So far, both tanks have been driven in ECO mode.
Back roads average between 60s and 70s (mpg).
Highways NEVER below 45 mpg, and seem to average 51 mpg.

Next tankful experiment: How far without using ECO at all?

Yes, but the point of this thread is to see if the Indicated MPG (the digital readout on your dashboard) is equal to the calculated MPG (miles driven/gallons of gasoline). On the Gen III, there is approximately a 5 - 6% error between the two (i.e. if the indicated MPG is 50.0 mpg on the display, the actual calculated MPG is around 47.5).

I agree our Prius is consistently off by 3 - 3.5 mpg over
reading. It would be nice if we can accumlate more
data on the Prius C to confirm if indeed the computer
is accurate as Wayne Gerdes from Cleanmpg.com
stated when he test drove the Prius C and stated
it was within .06 % accurate when he obtained
    85 mpg.

On Fuelly, there is one 2012 Prius C shown, and with 2 of 3 fuel ups, they listed the indicated MPG. It appears that the error is ~4% high (something like 3.7% and 3.9%).

Filled up today, car indicates an aveage of 53.4 mpg's. 433.9 miles divided by 8.463 gallons = 51.27 actual mpg's. That's close to 4% off. I am still very happy with those mpg's though. It was probably about just a little over half highway and the rest city.

Hope that 0.6% accuracy reported by the reviewer wasn't just a fluke.

If everyone were to top off in the same manner as Wayne did then I think the GenIII accuracy would be significantly reduced as well. Visual confirmation would eliminate at least one of the variables. Then you would just have to hope the pump is accurate. :)

Kirkuleez, thank you for posting your last tank. 4% is not too bad. Eventually more Prius c owners will understand why we are so interested in following the format I outlined and this thread will become more organized and informative just like the others have become. Thanks again for your contribution.
