cabin heating idea...

    Hello,

    I wanted to share an idea I had today...

    I recently purchased a Md-kit Phev kit.
    so far the kit is great. However I live in Canada. So the winter is quite cold here...

    The cold temperature is having quite an impact on the fuel efficiency since the ice need to run in order to heat the cabin.

    So I was thinking: how can I store heat from home and restore it As I am driving. I found out that water has a very high energy density. However it will lose its energy with time ( a glass of hot water will lose its heat quickly) and it can freeze below zero.

    The sodium acetate however will keep its energy and indefinitely.

    I think its energy density is comparable to the one of water.

    With 52 kilograms of hot ice ( sodium acetate) it is possible to store 4000kwh of heat. It's also quite cheap to make and it is non-toxic ( in fact we can eat it although it's not quite good to the taste)

    I'm going to explore this and how to implement it...

    I think you mean either 4Kwh or 400oWh. It actually sounds workable. It could possibly increase your Prius mileage, but the overall energy costs, including the reheating costs, will, of course, be a net loss.
