So my 2011 maintenace book says to "clean" my cabin air filter at 15,000 miles. I haven't pulled it out yet but after reading 10,000 posts on the subject, not once did I see a reference to anyone "cleaning" a cabin air filter.... Am I missing something ? Thanks, John N.
It is said that 'cleaning' it is accomplished by blowing compressed air through it in the opposite direction that the air normally flows. There is no reason to be anal about this filter ... it's just a stupid filter that 'supposedly' filters air blown into the cabin. I have serious doubts about it's effectiveness, as there is no seal involved like the engine air filter, and it just lays in there. It's more of a debris trap than an air filter. I blow it out or vacuum it off and put it back if it doesn't look too bad. These filters are more of a way to seperate a customer's money from their pocket than a way to filter the air effectively into the cabin. REV
The cleaning is blowing air through the opposite side from the debris. I have blown mine off a couple of times before replacing. The filter was in good shape but had some small pieces of debris on the air intake side.
Here you go Spidey. The Engine Air Filter is the top one and the Cabin Filter is below. Posted from my iPhone via the Tapatalk app.
Hey Ed, I was just wondering what the OP had in there... I think most if not all come with 07010 which is the charcoal filled on. Don't wash that one. Wait a sec... my charcoal is YZZ10 and the plain is YZZ08... which one do you have? Are you sure that is a Prius filter? Interesting, that seems to be for different vehicles... might still work.
It is the same size the one I removed and fit just fine. The guy usually deal with at the parts counter looked it up in the computer. I can't tell if my old filter is a charcoal filter or it's just dirty. There is no P/N on the old filter that I can see just some this side up arrows. I would not doubt if there is some commonality with parts and they are useable on different vehicles. Posted from my iPhone via the Tapatalk app.
Spiderman- I posted some related info on the v forum as a response to a post there; the part number that dustoff posted is the "warranty replacement" filter butyou are also correct; these are the two other part numbers that are possible for the cabin filter. Thanks Jeff. What I was trying to ascertain is whether or not all Prius were being shipped with premium charcoal filter or not. It seems like they are.
Excellent. I am pretty sure the one I took out was charcoal-activated. I will double-check the part number tonight of the one that came out. The 87139-07010 is not a charcoal filter from the ones I have seen, fwiw.
talking out of the top of my... at the dealership for what i thought would be the last of the 2 y free maintenance and too lazy (and tired after driving 300miles) to go do it myself. I recall reading ... once the dealership finally got the maintenance book to me after purchase... that it seemed almost one of the honeycomb like filters for the air cabin. Don't quote me. And I recall in another forum that caution re: the plastic tabs that hold the filter in.
Mine came with the one on the left. Makes me wonder why they install charcoal-activated ones in some cars and not others. Regional?
