A little road trip yesterday, to Phoenix for some circuit boards at a junkyard. It was my first with the Prius & it did quite well. Round trip it was in the neighborhood of 200 miles and the car did 48 mpg in the morning session & considerably less on the trip back, like low 40's. Coming back there was a strong, gusty side wind and dust storms, So the car did blow around a bit. This morning, my nose is full of grit & my eyes are burnin' so I'm guessing I need to check the air filter and probably blow it out with compressed air. The Prius I was visiting was in a roll over accident. Not one decent body panel was available. Yet the airbags hadn't deployed and the dash was not damaged (the circuit boards were in the dash.) Lots of little bits of glass shards and I had to use floormats to keep from getting splinters.. I've been doing so much dash work lately that I managed to get the center dash out without damaging it, tho it had a couple of invisible cracks on both sides of the clock area. I tried to buy the dash, but didn't quite have enough cash to buy the circuit boards & the dash. I could have gotten the whole thing, including the screen & radio for $100. I can provide the address & phone # if anyone is interested. If drove my Prius with cruise control set at 69 mph. Makes the driving part kind of relaxing if you're not overtaking slower traffic all the time. The car's steering is pretty sensitive, I'm thinking I need to reduce the tire pressure from 35 or so psi to maybe 28. Probably affect the mpgs, but make the car ride better and not quite as twitchy. I know, it's a early attempt by Toyota, but it sure is a nice little car.
