There is a local gen 2 (2005) that the seller is saying needs the ABS actuator replaced. I have not scanned the car for codes yet but he says the car went into "limp mode" after the lights came on. Ive only spoken to him through text so not sure exactly what he means by limp mode but my Gen 3 never went into any kind of limp mode when the abs went bad on it just gave the dash lights and made the noise of the booster trying to build pressure. Just curious if this is normal for a gen 2 as I have only worked on gen 3 cars or if there could be some other issue with the car outside of the ABS system. Thanks in advance

No there's no limp home mode for the brake actuator The brakes may actually seemingly work and may continue to work for a long time while you search for an actuator buying a new one kind of blows the bank 14 1700 somewhere in there depending upon how you purchase. You'll have ABS codes for the accumulator pressure being low or off or not recognized or what have you The pump will be running a lot and that's about it won't be doing any limping it'll still go 75 mph and the green car and the consumption display on the MFD should be green and all of that now if you have codes for misfiring and poor running and engine no start well that's unrelated to the brakes.

Possibly some kind of hybrid system fault - most will turn on all the brake warning lights in addition to the "master warning" (RToD).

You would have to scan all systems on the car for codes, otherwise it's just a guessing game.

Here's a thread that reviews several scantool apps and devices.
