I am in the market for a used Prius in the Tucson area. I'm wanting to learn more about 'when' an auxiliary battery would need to be replaced? I would think mileage would be the biggest driver, but wanting clarification. For example, would a 2015 with 120k miles be better then a 2012 with 80k miles, or vice versa. Thanks!

do you mean the hybrid battery?

the aux 12v battery is probably good for 4-5 years in the desert heat. 200 bucks for a new one.

for the hybrid battery, the 2015 would be much better. but a 12 with 80k isn't bad at all. i'd be more concerned with the head gaskets.
still, the hybrid battery won't last forever, so that should be in your budget
