breadcrumbs disappeared from GPS screen

I own a 2005 Prius (in Europe) and did always appreciate the "breadcrumbs" feature where the GPS deposits yellow dots on the roads where the car drove during the last few days. But this feature disappeared from my screen some time ago. I became aware of it when travelling in Holland. Being in an unknown area, the breadcrumbs help identifying how to drive back to where you came from...;-)
I asked my dealer who could not help. No customer ever asked him the question.
I suspected the last DVD upgrade to be responsible of the disappearance, but reinstalling the last but one disc did not change anything.
Can anybody suggest what to do to help recovering my breadcrumbs ?
