I've got a brand new hybrid battery to install from a Toyota dealer - it came with new Gen 4 modules (no lips on the vent nipples, flat surfaces) and no vent tubes at all.

Am I supposed to transfer the vent tubes from the old battery or not?

I need to return the old one to get my core charge back ($1,350).

My plan is to take apart two original hybrid batteries from 2010 and 2012 v, test all 56 old modules, pick 28 best (capacity-wise & load test-wise) and return 28 worse ones (a mix from both years) to Toyota in the 2012 v case.

The concern I have beyond vent tubes - I hope they don't mind module production dates. The dealer says they check the part number. If that's the case, then my plan would work. I even have an old Gen 2 battery that I got from a scrap year for $100 for fun & experience. The modules there were heavily discharged (ranging from 0.01V and 3.279V) - I use them to see how real bad ones look on the chargers. Would be fun if they accept these, but they obviously from Gen 2 since they were produced 20 years ago in August 2004.

You can always tell that the car was purchased with such batteries.
Who, when and for what changed them? Tell me you don't know.

The Gen 4 modules have the vent "tube" on top of the module, but have no actual vent. The Gen 4 vent tube does have the "lip" at the top.

Are you able to post a photo of the top of your new modules and the serial number on the module?
