Hello, I have about 2,500 miles on my Prime. When it rains, or has rained, the brakes squeak coming to a slow full stop. Is this normal? Standard break-in? Happening to anyone else? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
My brakes started squealing on my 2012 PIP after our heavy rains here in SOCAL. The car had 103,000 miles and I did see a light coating of rust on the rotors. Up to that time, never squealed. The slight squealing only noticeable in morning when backing the car down a long driveway. Never heard a squeal otherwise, and my Prime Advanced hasn't squealed at all, though has been in light rain and 2 carwashes; 2484 miles. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I sometimes hear a chirp out of the rear brakes, especially just at start up, backing out of the garage. Normal I think.
Did you use Car wash with wax treatments My BMW M 760 thas same thing after car wash with wax.... 5700 miles Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
In other similar threads it has been suggested to get the car up above 30 MPH where there is no traffic behind you and put it in Neutral and firmly apply the brakes a couple of times. This will cause the friction brakes to actually be used instead of the regen electrical drag. The brakes don't really get used that much and need to be "scrubbed" occasionally for some owners driving habits. OTOH, a light squeaking the first time the brakes are applied in the morning is perfectly normal.......as long as it goes away promptly.
