The coupon at the bottom just references then two versions of coverage, Primary and Secondary, and tells you to put the coupon in your owners manual. The very beginning of the letter and the end of the coupon show my car's in-service date (5/14/2014) , my VIN #, and my personal address.
I have no idea, but it sure seems weird that this is NOT a recall, yet they will either replace it if you're having issues or reimburse if you already had work done. Perhaps there are threshold numbers that determine recall or not. For me, I have not experienced any issues with my 2014 PIP. ...... Knock on wood
Not necessarily. For example, one recall for the 2016 Prius (H0U; see previous thread) applied to only six cars built for the U.S. market. The threshold for a recall is established by law. In the U.S., see 49 U.S.C. 30116–30121, 49 CFR 573, and 49 CFR 577; the test is whether a vehicle “contains a defect related to motor vehicle safety or does not comply with applicable motor vehicle safety standards.” For problems that don’t meet that standard, automakers prefer to avoid the stigma and regulatory burden of recalls, so they use other words to describe their programs. Toyota’s recalls page, under “Campaign Definitions” at the bottom, briefly defines “Special Service Campaign” and “Limited Service Campaign,” which both involve an inspection or repair of all affected vehicles. “Customer Support Program” isn’t mentioned, but the Toyota Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual (available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com) explains the difference: “Unlike a CSP [Customer Support Program] that simply extends the period of Warranty Coverage (failure of the component must occur for replacement), an LSC [Limited Service Campaign] will allow the dealership to replace/repair the specified component, without a failure, during the allotted time, mileage and/or applicability period.”
I am guessing the individual is referring to this news. Perhaps this link will clean up the confusion Toyota recalls various model year 2019-2020 Lexus and Toyota vehicles
