I own a 2005 Prius. Does using brake assist (moving the shift knob to "B") increases energy recapture?

B just engages the engine to cause drag, such as when going down hill with a fully charged battery. In that situation, you can't use regenerative braking, since there is nowhere to send the power.

Virgil: What they wrote. "B" should only be used to avoid riding the brakes on long downgrades. I think you would have to drive to the Alleghenies to find a place where "B" might actually be needed. You never have to use "B" to help the car manage the battery, the car takes care of that entirely by itself.
