Both power outlets stopped working at same time

Hi. New here/first post ... I have a 2007 with 68k miles, and both the power outlet under the radio area-passenger side and the one in the console just stopped working (I use them to power my GPS and to charge my iPhone and iPad). From poking around this site, I think this could be because of blown fuses, but it seems strange that both fuses would go at the same time.

This may be unrelated, but last week I had an odd display of the brake warning lights while I was driving -- the red brake system light, ABS, VSC and an exclamation point all lit up and stayed lit for about 15 minutes/10 miles, though the car was running fine and braking was normal. Next time I drove the warning lights did not come on, and they haven't again. So I am wondering if there may be an electrical or battery issue behind both these issues. Or I am procrastinating trying to locate the fuse box ... Any thoughts? TIA

    Hi Alleenmarie,

I had a similar event with tire pressure light and brought it in numerous times to shower the service dept. We finally caught it lit when I was in. They ended up changing out the electrical component found underneath the steering wheel. Your situation sounds very familiar.

Good luck! Let us know what you find out.

Well being a 07 if you have the original battery it might be time. You might check your voltage with the MFD in Diag mode. Also check to see if the fuses are blown.

    - Power outlet problem
Check two fuses: 15A PWR OUTLET FR and 15A PWR OUTLET

The second fuse provides power to one outlet and also controls power to a relay that switches power to the second outlet, so its failure would result in loss of power to both outlets.

Prius has two fuse boxes, one in the engine compartment on the driver's side behind the headlight assembly, and the other under the dashboard near where your left knee would be when you are seated in the driver's seat.

    - Brake warning light problem
Has your inverter coolant pump been replaced under the LSC (limited service campaign, similar to a recall notice)? In any event, look at the inverter coolant reservoir (next to the inverter) when the Prius is READY. If you do not see fluid turbulence, then the pump has failed and this must be immediately fixed or you risk permanent damage to the inverter and transaxle due to overheating.

Have same problem. Neither 12 volt power outlet works. Both fuses okay.
In addition Radio does not work and the speech command system is also inoperative. There are no fuses labeled radio or sound system.

GPS and Guidance works as well as phone blue tooth. They must not use the radio but do work through the vehicle speakers.

    Any Ideas?

Have a look at Power Outlet Relay P5 to see if it is OK. Also check the ACC fuses.

For the Gen II Prius, Relay P5 is under the dash on the extreme left side, so it is not easy to get at. Relays are very reliable, so it would be the last thing I would check, after making sure the fuses are OK, and the sockets are OK.

The fuses are in the driver side block, under the steering wheel and to the left in the U.S. model.
