Boss "Bragging" About Getting a 2010-so what's all the hype?

so just agree with him in an 'over-the-top' manner ... and he'll probably get it.

Seems your boss has a serious case of prius envy. As in many of these advanced cases there is an underlying background of under performance and indeed, yes, fear.

I wonder if he is actually terrified he will miss "Cash for Clunkers" and not have a done deal before the rebate funds run out. Bravado before the fall.

Try to be patient and understanding. Your boss is obviously going through a very difficult time now.

 

I can understand how you feel if he's running off at the mouth so much. He's all excited and enthusiastic, full of the deal and not even considering how much you already know about the Prius and could teach him. Thinking back - how did you feel when you got your '09? Hopefully, he'll get over it soon.

I know how he feels too - I've been waiting for 2 1/2 months. My car is at the dealership and I pick it up on Monday when cash for clunkers goes into effect. I never was good waiting for presents. This is torture!<g>

There are several differences from the 09 to the 10. The ones that impact on a regular basis are the seats, larger engine, no bladder in the gas tank, and the interior layout. There are also many changes under the hood.

I looked at the 09 as they were offering great deals on it. The deal breaker for me was the seat, my backside was numb after half an hour and no lumbar support wasn't good for my husband. Other than that, I could be driving an '09 as I probably wouldn't have waited for the 10's to come out. Either year, it's a great car and I hope you keep enjoying yours.

 

I'll have to say I've always wanted a Prius but did not like the older body stile, nor the way it handled. So from the "Boss's" perspective I understand a little about what he's saying. That said, if I couldn't get my hands on a 2010, I was going for an '09. My Boss, (my wife) the Yukon pilot, does not like any Prius try living with that.

Let me suggest you and your boss sign up for a web-based, mileage recording site ... say MyHybridCar.com ... where your cars can show up in similar pools. Then keep records and monitor progress. For example, check out my signature, 70,000 miles in a 2003 Prius vs. 2,600 miles in a ZVW30. <GRINS>

There is a lot of knowledge about how to efficiently drive the 1.6L Prius but the 1.8L is still under study. But given the description of your boss, I suspect he may be a 'slow learner.' For fun, propose a bet to 'buy lunch' in a year of tracking mileage.

What is fun about this approach is you both may 'gain a clue.' <GRINS> ... Don't tell him about "PriusChat" or the Prius Yahoo groups.

I bought a new 2010 (picking it up Aug 3rd) and I didn't tell any of my employees that I even was thinking about buying one. I'm interested to see how long it is going to take for one of them to realize I have a new car.

Once he get's his 2010, just ask him how he's enjoying the "Cargo Net". Mention how it's really nice for keeping things in place, and how much you enjoy yours. Make a big deal about it.

 

The 2010 interior layout is much more like any other car, in other words people who hated the internal layout of 04-09 are basically afraid to try anything new and insist on a conventional design for no other reason than it was the same as all their previous cars. :behindsofa:

 

Not much different than 50% of the postings here. Half don't have a 2010 and say it's because they don't like it and the other half have a 2010 and say they are much better than the 09 and back.

But seriously, you are a Prius owner and you can't see the subtle visible differences???? There are many of us that truly did not consider the older Prius as a car we'd own, but absolutely love the "new" look. I'll admit to a casual observer (like my wife) they look real similar, but to many of us the changes were just enough to make the car attractive to our taste. (But there are just as many people that don't like it.)

WWJD? Blessed are those who don't see the difference as they will be satisfied until it really makes sense to trade.

 

What about all those of us who keep a car for more than 2-3 years? I like the 2010, but not enough to go back into debt for it. Plus I've got my 2006 mod'ed the way I want it, and I'd have to adapt to a new car.

It does look slightly different, but not enough to change a person's mind over whether they like the shape enough to own it or not, since the basic shape is totally unchanged.
Same with the Honda Insight, it's the de facto hybrid shape now (even though the old Insight had a better Cd than the new one, and the EV1 had an even lower Cd).

Had a similar thing with a coworker (not boss) just before I picked up my 10. He had just bought an 09 for a great price and just smiled and shook his head when I told him I was getting a 10. I expounded on the virtues of the 10, but for him it was just not worth it. I let him go without slapping him silly

No, we just don't want to drive a car with an interior that feels like a mini van.

 

Conventional thinking again, pigeon holing the interior design by certain class of vehicle, i.e. you've been conditioned by the car manufacturers to want a certain car layout, thanks for proving my point, ROFL.

 

I haven't been conditioned by anyone dude. I have driven and sat in mini vans and I just don't like the interior, and I don't like the interior of the Gen II. Nothing more, nothing less.

 

I think part of the problem here is that we've been too successful in extolling the virtues of the Prius, regardless of the generational iterations.

There never would have been a Gen2 if there weren't buyers of the Gen1. Likewise, there wouldn't have been a Gen3 but for the buyers of the Gen2.

To the OP: When your boss starts going off on how great the 2010 is, tell him a story about your actual experience, and what it was like when you moved from your former car to the Prius. Say: "I know what you mean, because I thought the same, but it was even better when . . ." Tell him how much money you saved on gas while he was belching pure hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. If all of a sudden he cares about emissions, then share some of that info with him, too.

All-in-all, his "stories" are partly based in reading material and part in imagination. Your stories are real. Please tell me you can out-story the boss!
