I had no trouble connecting my Verizon Motorola KRZR to the bluetooth and it works great. But there are two issues: first, a lot of the time the "transfer call" button on the screen is not available, so if I want to switch from the car's audio system to my phone, I can't. Second, the salesmen told me I can only download one phone number at a time from the phonebook to the car. Is that really true??

No, the problem I'm having is that the "transfer call" button isn't always available. Say, for instance, that I'm talking through bluetooth on the phone. The sound is coming through my audio system. Occasionally, for whatever reason, I want to transfer the call to my phone from the car's audio system. The way to do this is to press the "transfer call" button. But it isn't always available to select. Now that I think of it, could it be like this only when the car is in motion?

I'm new to the forums. Appreciate the Bluetooth question that was posed, as I've one as well. Tonight, I was driving our non-Prius vehicle, with my wife following 4-5 car lengths behind in the Prius. I was trying to make a few calls with my Bluetooth headset and the calls kept getting messed up and not connecting me, yet looking as if connecting. I had no idea what was going on until we arrived at our destination and my wife told me the calls were transmitting out from the Prius and connecting her to the other party! Think of the security issues! Why does it broadcast that far? It only has to speak to a device from a few feet. Who needs the NSA when you can just drive a Prius?!

We were near the dealership, so I dropped in to ask what they knew about adjusting the sensitivity of the Bluetooth range and they looked at me like I was speaking Greek. I've had other problems with the handsfree system in the Prius, along with most of the silly voice command stuff, so I just deactivated the Bluetooth and prefer to use the phone with a headset.

It's one more nail in the coffin for this car. I'll look for the appropriate forum to get into the litany of dislikes of the Prius. Buyers remorse. Worst purchase ever made. A big letdown. Anyone steer me to a forum for such issues?

First, you're going to initiate the transfer from the car. After that, "push" the contacts from your phone following the instructions below (outlined under Bluetooth--->Sending Contacts).

Dang, and it was on your last post too. My bad.

That's odd, I have Verizon, which prevents most of their phones from sending. I used a non-Verizon phone I got on eBay and used it for sending the phonebook.

Thanks, that was pretty simple, I could only send one at a time but it still worked.

    Sorry you dislike your car!

Ragarding BT connecting to your headset instead of the car -- most phones (all phones) are going to consider a headset and a car to be about the same sort of BT device. Your phone is listed in the car as the thing it wants to connect to, so the car is going to try to connect to your phone if your phone is in range. And it will keep trying, so unless you get your headset paired and connected with your phone first, this will happen. Another approach is to add pairing between the car and your wife's phone, and when your wife is driving the car she needs to select her phone as the one for it to pair to. Or turn pairing off on the car. I hardly think that this is a security issue since it is only pairing with your phone because you TOLD the car to pair with your phone at some point and you were within range. My _guess_ is that it actually paired with your headset when you and your wife left (and you were closer than 5 cars apart) and that prevented your headset from pairing since your headset probably ISN'T going to keep trying, and that periodically depending on your distance from the car, you paired and unpaired multiple times.

It is unlikely that the bluetooth range can be adjusted on any bluetooth commercial user device, so to the dealer you were speeking greek. If you actually prefer the headset then you have found your solution! The cost of your solution is that you don't get steering wheel controls and you don't get the stereo muted.

Since you have buyer's remorse, you can keep it or sell it or trade with your wife. Since you are not in CA you obviously don't have HOV stickers which would be a plus in selling the cars. Since prices are dropping you can most likely anticipate a big hit if you sell the car. If you really dislike the car that much, it makes me wonder if you did any research before buying the car, and why you bought the car to begin with....

    Go to Priuschat->Marketplace->Private Sales

List your car there. Option 9 is a really rare option available only in Southern Japan; it is very expensive and somehow fell through Toyota's tight security controls and shipped to Washington State.

the situation you describe your BT experiences is simply a question of end user errors. BT functionality can be controlled and very easily. you can secure your BT device. you need to examine your settings on your phone.

usually you are looking for visibility settings. you can set any BT device to not be visible or scan-able.

Thanks for bringing my inadvertant error on Option #9 to my attention. I did mean Option #6 and updated my profile accordingly.

Thanks for offering possible solutions to the Bluetooth issue I tabled. Just to clarify what was going on, that does pose inconvenience, safety, and security concerns. First, my wife doesn't have a mobile phone, so pairing was not a factor. I'm frankly amazed that the signal was that strong, and unable to be adjusted for range. What if the call I was trying to make had been for an emergency situation? I have found my solution in just using the headset and deacvtivating the BT pairing with the Prius handfree. I won't miss the plethora of steering controls, and mute is easy with a turn of the "knob".

We did research the car, and tried it out as much as one can within the realm of the typical buying and delivery experience with the dealership. I had concerns about some of the things I'd mentioned, but tried to be open-minded based on all the rave reviews and that maybe it was just a matter of my need to accept that I needed to go through a learning curve with many of the cars functions. I have been hearing some similar complaints from friends and family who drice Prius', which makes me somewhat suspect of reviews that skew so gushingly with adoration. At first, my wife didn't want to hear my complaints about what is mostly her drive. However, she has now become equally critical on many of the same points. Any decision to bail out of it will be up to her. If left to me, I would sell. At least we can absorb some of the loss with the tax credit.

I really believe in the direction Toyota is going with the technology, so my criticisms I hope will be seen by Toyota as ways to improve the vehicle. The Camry looks to have embodied the technology benefit while addressing most of the quirky ergonomics and any other issues I put forth. Ultimately, I think they have a market opportunity for a blend of Prius and Camry -- think Prius drive train for Prius fuel economy, with a wagon (even greater utility than a hatch) that is more Camry-like in interior ergonomics and appointments. Oh, and lose the medium grey and beige interiors that show so much dirt (and look like rentals) and go with a dark grey or black only (hides the dirt, would be more economic/green in production and model offerings. and looks more sophisticated). Why should the Hybrid Camry look less sophisticated than the SE model?

Sorry to ramble away from the Bluetooth subject focus. I'm new to the boards, so I need to look around for the appropriate forums for design/performance comments.

Bluetooth has a range of approximately 10 meters (~33 feet). Any car Bluetooth system would have behaved in the manner that you described under those circumstances, not only the Prius'.

Which begs the question, why did you buy the car in the first place?

Check with your tax adviser first, depending on how long you had the car, a portion of the tax credit may be recaptured.

On this we do agree. If I were to sell my Prius, the Camry Hybrid will be on top of the list of potential replacements.

I'm curious what your other complaints are. So far, from what you posted, the Prius is "innocent" of the Bluetooth problem. ALL cars with handsfree cell phones with bluetooth would have acted exactly the same way. What else do you not like about the Prius.

Note that I have a 2007 Prius and while it is irritating that they don't think I can look at the song list at the same time while driving, I don't know what else I would complain about with the car. You --did-- note that you did research before hand. What did you expect and what did it turn out to be?

    Getting nit picky.

I would like smart intermittent wipers like on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It senses when the windshield gets wet and how much to automatically turn on and off the intermittent wipers.

I would LOVE for the "incredibly smart people" (sic) at Verizon to let me determine if I want to sync my address book to my car, my computer, or whatever.

I would like a hatch release (like a trunk release) near the fuel door opener in my Prius.

I would like a lock button in the hatch of my Prius. That way I could get out of my Prius, close the front door, go to the hatch and get something out of it or put something in and then hit a lock button there (without pulling out the dongle or going to the front door) and locking my Prius.

I wish the button to turn on the map lights to be in the light itself instead of a separate button. It would be much easier to find.

All cars of every make and model should have an iPod connector built in so that I can see what song is playing. I should be able to control my iPod from the steering wheel and radio controls including advancing to the next song or playlist. It should also pause when a call comes in through bluetooth on the phone.

But those are very nit picky things. Other than that I don't know what else I would change. It drives great. The seats are really good (it's a 2007 Touring model) and, again, I can't think of anything else I would change.

I have an '06, and it does have the lock button on the hatch ... did they really take this AWAY for the '07? It's one of the more convenient features that I use on a regular basis.

Not to doubt you (I haven't seen an '07 up close and personal), but are you sure it's not there?

Hi Ohm86. Where is it on the '06? Maybe it is there and I just haven't found it.
