I have an Axim x30 with Bluetooth. I never thought to connect it to the car, though. I assume I can only connect one BT device to the car at once, right? Either the cell or the PDA?

How do I listen to tunes through my Dell? Put mp3s on it?

 

I've only moved two phonebook entries to my Prius, but a PDA should work as well as a phone.

If it is not a Bluetooth phone, I dont think it is going to pair. You can get a PDA to transfer numbers to the Prius but you have to start off the process by pairing with a Bluetooth phone. Once paired you can initiate the transfer with a Bluetooth PDA.

 

So, will all Bluetooth capable PDAs sync up to the Prius? I am on the WL for a Prius, and am also looking for a new PDA. Should I get a certain one to work with the Prius (especially considering my cell phone serviec is through Verizon, which doesn't appear to have a way to download the phonebook)?

 

"ALL" is probably a bit too broad; no guarantees. I know the HP2200 does. I suspect most will if they support OBEX. Bluetooth laptops probably will also. But somewhere you have to have a Bluetooth phone to get things started.

 

Hi! I am on the WL for a Prius. 3 weeks and counting.

I need to get a new phone, but I have Sprint service and I don't see any Sprint phones on the toyota.letstalk Web site. Anybody out there that has a Sprint BT phone that works with the Prius?

For Sprint, I know the LG-325 and the PPC6600/01 both work.

You would think that Sprint would be on top of these things. Go figure.

 

I'd kill for some step-by-directions. I just spent an hour trying to get my PowerBook talking to my Prius. It didn't occur to me to throw the phone into the mix. Does the fact that I'm using the Verizon-crippled v710 mean that this won't work for me?

Well I'm halfway there. The secret was a post by wesj49 in another topic. You need to have your phone with you. The Prius pairs with the phone, the PowerBook pairs with the Prius, and the Prius gets data from the PowerBook, thinking it's from the phone. At least that's the way I'm thinking of it, and anyway, it works.

Except that the records I the Mac's Address Book didn't transfer -- the Prius phonebook got the names, but no phone numbers or other usable data. Now I need to figure out what that's about. Maybe I need to export them from Address Book as vCards. But then what program would I use to send them over the Bluetooth link? Address Book will do that automatically with its own records -- there's a Send These Cards command in the Card menu. Maybe I need to strip out extra data, like multiple phone numbers. Not sure. But at least I'm connecting now.

Can you use Bluetooth File Exchange to browse or send files? If you can, you might be able to create a name/number file and send it to the Prius.[/font:eca02205f6]

 

Great idea! I didn't even know that program existed, but there it is, tucked away in utilities. My next attempt (it's too late tonight) will be to export some selected records as vCards into a file, then try to send that file using Bluetooth File Exchange. On the Prius end, you just need to have the Bluetooth link to your phone, and then go into Settings/Transfer Phone Book/Start Transfer.

Great! I am a relative newcomer to Mac, and I'm still amazed at how many powerful little features I haven't heard about yet.

 

I didn't stick with Sprint, but I had both these devices and they both paired with my Prius.

What app are you using for the your contacts list? Sounds to me like you should just experiment a little with the phone number field(s). Are you aware that the numbers cannot be formatted eg. 18052385555? I haven't heard of anyone successfully transfering a text file, although in theory it should work if you can figure out the correct delimiters.
