Hello. We got clobbered with 30 inches last night. I dug out car this afternoon and I started it to move it in my driveway so I put it in drive and there was a flashing yellow triangle alert and dashboard said something about being in park but car was in drive. It was either transmission was frozen or too much weight still on roof. I shut it off waited a while and started it again. When gas engine kicked in and roof cleared it seemed ok. I can't test drive because you need landcruiser to get around now. Any comments on what that could have been? Thanks

More likely, it was you taking extra safety into account. A very common thing to do when there's lots of snow is to pull away with the door open for increased visibility. Prius doesn't want that, sounding & displaying a warning to inform you to stop.

Having driven Prius in Minnesota for well over a decade, I can tell you with great certainty that cold & snow aren't an issue. So, no need to worry. When you do finally see an end to that mess, you'll see that all is well.

Good job with all the shoveling!

    Thanks for sharing the photos.

Just on the seatbelt warning... sheesh. I just washed my car in the development's one wash bay which is - no joke - about a 400 metre drive from my spot. Drove it back without the belt on partly because I was a bit wet and boy was the car unhappy about it. First is was just the flashing red seatbelt indicator. Then it started beeping incessantly. After a bit of that it turned up the volume of the beeping to an ear piercing level that continued not just until I stopped, but right until I actually shifted into reverse.

This car is such a carry on when it's not happy about something.

I can't decide if that snow you left on the roof gives the car a mohawk cut, or looks like an extra large shark fin:)

Those have specific lighted warning signs on the dash. Neither causes a flashing triangle as described. I often have things on the front seat and the seatbelt light will flash and run an audilble alarm. Door open, same thing.

Weight on the roof would't create the alarm as it is much less than four people in the car.

Don't think it was the cold as my Prius hatchback endures 10 degrees in the snow with no complaint.

It was definitely a triangle shaped yellow warning light.

one of the reasons that the triangle Indicates that the driver’s door was opened with the shift position in N, D or B A buzzer also sounds. (all of the indications from this triangle can be found on pg 431 of the owners manual)

You can push the ON button (with the brake pedal depressed) and shift into drive faster than the car can respond. You end up in reverse or drive with the warning triangle flashing. I then must shift back into park and hit the ON button again. I have done this numerous times and a second restart always solves the problem.

Has happened a few times to me also. The display screen will have a message telling you to shift back to P and press Start (or the non-SKS equivalent).
