Holy moly that concept picture is horrendous...looks like the ugly step-sister of a station wagon and it looks way too much like a Prius.

I have an idea for Toyota...since many/most folks who own Corolla's use them for driving to work, come out with a SMALLER version, maybe a 2-door, that can get 70 mpg due to being very light.

    I'm fine with the looks.

What I want to know: will there be a version small enough to replace our Prius c, or a version large enough to replace our Mazda 6?

...or will it be right down the middle like the current Prius, wrong size to replace either?

Humm , seems that Toyota does not look interested in going in EV territory even in PHEV territory ........for the corolla or the camry or the corolla cross........or even the Prius EV ..while Kia , Hunday or chineese brands and european brands are going in different directions.....hybrids are doomed in 10 years
is this the decline of the Toyota empire.

Interesting that Toyota sees the BYD hybrid system as the one to beat.

Depending on timing of regulations in the different markets and manufacturer ramp up, I would not be surprised to see North America to get the new Corolla a year after everyone else. We were the last to get the latest and greatest engine and transmission tech for the Corolla in the past.
The former is the Yaris, and the later the Camry.

The engine event had them saying these new engines are for PHEVs too. Their delay in taking EVs seriously has Toyota behind in battery supply compared to others.

It looks identical to Gen 5 Prius. That is because it is all speculation at this point, and the scoop has no idea what it is talking about.

I guess the way I read it, BYD is the business to beat. The competitor they would most want to knock down.

I'll give them points for not shifting the sizes too much over time. The current Impreza is the size of the old Outback, for example.

So even if they aren't the right size for our needs, it's nice to see that something stayed stable.

The magazine did get the looks of the gen5 Prius right.
There was a bit about a BYD model being efficient when in hybrid mode.

That was very close to the launch during the masked-road-testing phase though. I doubt even Toyota knows how the next-generation Corolla looks like at the moment.

Considering it’ll be launched next year as a 2026 model, I think it’s been finalized already.

That windshield is going to cost a fortune to replace, when you get a rock chip.

Despite the V-6 issues on some Tundra's, the Car Care Nut just bought a new Tundra. He's going to keep an eye on that engine by sending in oil samples for analysis at 500 and then 1,000 miles. Since it has a turbo, he's also going to be changing the oil every 3,000 miles instead of 5,000. (Which is what I'll do if I ever get a vehicle with a turbo which I don't plan on anytime soon.)

Do they have one that a normal-sized person can get into and out of, or do they expect everyone to be Asian?

Patience. Seeing Toyota's battery production investment in North Carolina continue to grow, now $14 Billion with the hope of around 5,100 direct jobs, tells the real story. It simply make no sense jumping into the market with high-volume choices until next-gen chemistry & platforms are established here. We'll see fruits of that effort emerging in 2026.

So many current players want quick results, it's supporting a narrative of disinterest. For perspective beyond Toyota, look no further than the NEVI complaints. Lawmakers are supposedly unhappy about the $5 Billion for EV chargers only delivering 11 stations so far. Who giving any critical thought would have expected faster turn-around? The planning, approval and contracting process takes a long time anyway. Adding to it the long backlog of equipment orders (like transformers), how could it go any faster?

Like what we saw with Prius, true changes to the status quo take many years. There's a lot preventing sustainable high-volume sales at a profit. Our market isn't ready for mass acceptance anyway. Offerings related to DC are chaotic with speed, reliability, pricing and NACS adoption.

What I look forward to is simple expansion of level-2 support. For example, one of the resorts in Northern Minnesota just filed for a digging permit to deliver 18 lines, each 240 volts. That's awesome. You can easily recharge entirely while staying there using nothing but your own EVSE and they need to do very little beyond that initial wiring investment. Imagine the stir it will cause for neighboring resorts, like the one I own a timeshare week at literally just a few miles down the road.

well.......Patience has a strong biais here, since the Canadian market is much smaller than the US market .In my province , in the first quarter of 2024 , 1 out of 4 new sales are BEV ....even with 25% of the new car market ..the waiting delay for BEV or PHEV is clearly indecent ,as an example a RAV 4 Prime expect 18 months ........when it seems that in the US you can get one very fast

How would you like to be a battery maker CEO investing multi billions in a plant to produce batteries using today's form factors and today's chemistry? When you invest, you have to calculate how much you will make in profit and how long that profit stream will last before it is disrupted.

In today's word where there is a new announcement of a breakthrough every week it seems, I'm glad I'm not facing a BOD justifying that budget.

It's no different now than in the past... focus on goals. What will actually appeal to the masses? This is why Tesla is now struggling with innovator's dilemma. Looks at LFP. It's rise to success somewhat mimics the unlikely rise of VHS.

As if anyone company will be able to make a ICE car that gets 70 mpg for sale in this country, the way cars are driven here, without getting a class action suit for wishful thinking and having to eat their R and D.
When has that happened in the last 20 years?
