2006 Pruis w/ 136,000 miles. dreaded error code for the hybrid battery. Dealer wants to replace the hybrid battery plus the ECU (says that you must always replace the ECU with the battery). I was looking at some videos online and replacing the battery doesn't look to terrible to do. So...where is the best place to purchase a replacement battery? Or would I get more bang for my buck to get a new battery? Dealer wants $3,300 to replace. Thanks!!

With such low miles, I would definitely go for a new battery minus the ECU. You should try and contact Toyota HQ and see if they'll offer you any assistance in getting the new battery. The car has fairly low miles so they might kick in a few bucks of "goodwill" towards the battery.

Since you feel comfortable installing it yourself I can have one drop shipped to your door. Certainly waaaay less than $3,300.
Read through the threads and/or feel free to give me a call and we can talk through options.

Anyone have any experience or heard about putting new gen 3 cells into a rebuilt gen 2 battery pack? Thanks for the great comments thus far, btw.

When I went to their website, there is no pricing/warranty information. How did you get that information? Their tab "where to buy" just comes up with little parts stores like AutoZone.

I've called a few already and they don't carry the batteries. Am I to call all 5200 of them? :) Guess I have to wait until Monday and just call them. I don't know why that info isn't on their website though.

None of them will stock the battery, all special order only.

You don't expect to have 5200 batteries waiting for buyers right?

There was a member that purchased from Rockauto at rock bottom prices. But when he needed warranty, Rockauto was giving him the run around. It's best to buy any rebuild from a local source. That way you can actually go to the place to get your warranty claim in. Online prices are cheap, but if you are counting on the warranty, it's best to pay a little more.

A guy on ebay sells them for 1,200.00 with 150.00 shipping and no core exchange. Seems to have happy customers and has sold 57 of them. That could be an option. These are listed as rebuilt, not re-manufactured. Not sure what the difference is (if any). Maybe someone could enlighten us on the difference.

Kinglew, the guy who bought through RockAuto had a problem because of RockAuto. In fact that guy made the post to warn people to not go through RockAuto. Perhaps issue was with how RockAuto initially obtained the pack?
People seem to be playing fast and loose with terminology like remanufactured, refurbished, and rebuilt.
Stick with a reputable, known supplier and you'll be fine.
