ok I've read loads on these forums (and user groups), but is there a similarly useful site on the Honda IMA?
Something that shows how to take it apart, what it does - where the oil goes etc?
    thanks :p

Well, maybe sandwiching a electric motor between the engine and the transmission isn't something to brag about. :D

hmm, none of the Civic Nation type forums have anything useful?

    This is pretty much it...

There's not much to a one motor hybrid system, which likely why GM has chosen to offer that type and a "full" hybrid at the same time. The operational differences are significant.

Don't knock IMA; it's simple but in the right hands it can do some
amazing things. I learn a few things every time I hobnob around
with Insight drivers -- of course thinking all the while how to map
those concepts back into the Prius drivetrain!

OK, if you're genuinely interested in finding where IMA related stuff is discussed for the Civic , Insight and Accord hybrids, you can find it at GreenHybrid and CleanMPG.

Unless I am mistaken, the HCH community (for both generations) is the most active group at GreenHybrid - perhaps more so than the Prius forum.

Please do not compare GM's BAS system to IMA. The two systems are not even close enough to be comparable.

Hobbit is correct. You should not knock IMA at all.

According to the GreenHybrid database the Prius and the HCH-2 are just separated by a 1 mpg difference. I can see no difference between the two I own.
Owning both vehicles also gives me the confort to say that the IMA HCH-2 implementation is no less sophisticated than the HSD on my 2007 Prius. In fact, the technology in the HCH-2 gas engine is in my opinion far more sophisticated than that of the Prius II. If you wish to have a first glance at what I mean please review the following:

    IMA version 4
