Another confused reporter tests a Prius up in Canada! Guess the cars up there are really different!

"Space age look" and gadgets like a luxury $40000 car.

"In fact, the electric engine recharges itself using heat created by the engine"

"wasn't as confident in its acceleration on the highway."

"Unfortunately, hybrid vehicles have the reputation of being ugly cars preferred by the granola crowd"

Otherwise she seemed to like the car a little bit.

well, she redeems herself on the first line

"I'll admit I am notoriously slow to adopt new technology. That is, of course, unless it will save me money."

    hmm, nothing fairly dramatic.

Yeah, I saw that one earlier today. I stopped reading and started skimming when I hit "In fact, the electric engine recharges itself using heat created by the engine."

On another Prius newstory topic, there was a story today about the bottoming out used-SUV market, and capturing folks to keep their SUVs longer because the resale market is so bad, further compounded by the GM et al employee discount programs driving down resale prices of all cars in general.

I dumped a Jeep V8 for my Prius and got bottom dollar for it this summer, and I think it's only going to get worse for people trying to make a decision of when to flop over to a more fuel efficient vehicle. My wife has a Ford Expidition that I expect is going to become harder to get rid of when the time comes over the next few years.

In the longer term, I'm afraid that my house is going to suffer a similar resale fate during my lifetime, when the energy costs associated with it start to rise with a more general oil/energy shortage.... Hell, the Peak Oil guys say that this is going to happen sooner than I think...

I saw the heat thing to and fired off an e-mail to her explaining the error and explaining how the car really works. I asked her to please print a follow-up story as there is already so much misinformation around about hybrids and many still assume you plug them in at night. Hopefully she will correct this error.
