Howdy, I'm looking to buy my first Prius. I found a 2010 with only 40,000 miles. Should I worry about battery life since the car has only been driven an average of 2000 miles a year since 2011? Thanks in advance. Freddy.
The general consensus is that battery life is effected by time and not miles. The average battery life is about 10 years no matter how many miles are on the car.
Isn't NY a CARB state? If so, and the car is from NY, and if you get 10 years on the traction battery warranty, it would be low risk. If the car was parked and driven in Manhattan, that could explain the low miles. Or maybe the car was simply used as transportation to and from a train station.
At my home I have 309000 km of run and so far the batteries keep good, and I know people who have already over 500,000 km and still on the original batteries.
