I have noticed that my 2005 acquires a bad smell after I have driven it in the pouring rain on the highway.

I commute on I95 in to Northern VA every day. On Tuesday I drove home in a torrential rain storm. Today it smells like crap. The smell has gone away over the day.

It doesn't do it when I've driven around town in the rain, nor if it's sitting outside in the rain (it's usually in the garage if not being driven). Only when I've commuted in the rain.

Has anyone else had this happen? I know it's not coming from the vents, but can't place the location!

I've had this on other cars, but not the Prius. Were you using the front defroster? (Sometimes the air conditioning compressor gets mouldy and smelly) Are the carpets wet anywhere? Are the door seals all intact? Have you looked at the cabin air filter to see if it's clean and dry?

There is also a topic that I can't find that tells, with pictures, how to clean out the drains at the base of the wind shield. There is one on each side and they drain down to just in back of each front wheel. The one on the passengers side is easy to get to, just open the hood and pull off the little black grill on the fire wall. The one on the drivers side is harder you have to remove the windshield wiper I think. Some people have had the drain tubes plug up and fill with water and mold. I think the post with pictures and directions was by Hobbit.
