Back up lights not working.

The Electrical Wiring Diagram (EM03Q0U) (more info) shows the circuit, in the Back-Up Light pages of the System Circuit section.

If the fuses, lamps, and relay are all OK, it’s probably a wire or connector, or the combination meter. I’d check first that the R⃞ shift position indicator in the combination meter works. If not, the trouble is in the combination meter or its BEAN communication with the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

If the R⃞ indicator works, I’d check at connector 3H of the engine room relay block, taking care not to damage the terminals by inserting meter probes. Is there 12 volts at terminal 3H-6, for the contacts and coil of the BK/UP LP relay? With reverse selected, is terminal 3H-7, the connection from the combination meter, grounded? If you connect terminals 3H-6 and 3H-8, do the back-up lights come on?

Those tests should be enough to sectionalize the trouble, after which it’s straightforward to check the relay or the wiring and connectors, working towards the power source, combination meter, or lights, respectively.

 

Have you put a continuity meter on the bulbs?

 

Both sides the lights are not working? Have you had any recent bodywork, maintenance, or an accessory installation? Something that might have damaged the wring, left a connector undone?
