Hello, my son’s Prius factory body paint is starting to look sad. This is a 2010 with 130K miles and would like to repaint the entire car.

How much should I expect to pay on average for this job? Nothing fancy, just the same color as the original. This information will be very useful for me so I do not get ripped off by local shops and also to start budgeting for it.

    Thank you for your help.

You best bet is to call different paint shops in your area. Simple Duck Duck Go search
    will bring up several places.

Oh I'm sure you're talking three to five grand quick fast in a hurry I mean look at all the prep work and nonsense it goes into a paint job needs to be generally done in a spray booth so you don't wind up with garbage in your paint generally speaking yeah it's a big to do even back in the old Earl shive days yeah remember those so you know you got to just figure it out but you're talking big bucks people DA sanding and sweating and all that nonsense there you go really can't do it yourself who has a spray booth at home that makes them portable ones you can put up made out of plastic sheathing and pipe but that's a stretch You don't want to be breathing in that paint urethane compounds and all that deadly I say people who spray paint and mess with fiberglass resin generally the last 7 years after there stop working and they're dead.

    That's my first thought.

Is the peeling confined to the roof? Hood's ok?

If so, maybe just do the roof??

    Years of outside parking?

    How's the headlights, fogging?

A vinyl wrap will probably be slightly less expensive, but there's still alot of prep work because if the surface isn't perfectly smooth it will show up in the wrap... There's way more options for how the car can look if you do a wrap rather than paint.

Hi. It’s the roof mostly. I replaced the headlights already. He lives in Texas and years of parking outside probably caused the damage.

A full paint job with good prep, etc is going to be at least 3k-5k. A reputable body shop wanted $7500 to do my wife's 2004 Santa Fe a couple years ago, but they pull glass and trim off, etc.
There are some shops that specialize in $400 spray overs with minimal prep, but it's very shoddy and you'll regret it.
On the other hand, if you do the prep work yourself, they can usually spray it for a reasonable price. You could probably get the roof done for a couple hundred or less. A lot of times the rear spoiler is also bad, but it's easy to pull off and have prepped/painted as a separate piece from the car (but at the same time the roof is being done)

Here's the DIY version to simply replace the failed clear coat yourself...
