I just recently replace my Gen I with a 2008 Gen II. My husband has a 2005 and when he fills his gas tank, the average mileage gauge returns to 0. Mine doesn't even though the mileage goes to 0. Is this expected with the 2008?

It should reset itself. I would have it looked at.

^^^ Beware advise from junior members. :p

All is perfectly normal. Earlier gen2 models (2004 and 2005) reset the MPG data automatically when you re-fill. They changed this in later year models so that you had to reset the MPG data manually. This was to allow people to run "lifetime" MPG averages.

uart is correct. The 04 and 05 reset the MPG with each fill-up. The 06 thru 09 resets the MPG when the soft RESET button is pushed on the MFD. The miles reset automatically on all Gen IIs
