Aux jack sound issues

No problems in the 08, but it doesn't seem to have the center speaker either.

 

Try turning down the volume from the iPod, and turning up the volume of the stereo instead. Your iPod could be overdriving the audio input.

 

I've had problems with distortion, but it had to do with the patch cable running from the ipod to the Aux jack. The ones I have bought from RadioShack are cheap and don't hold up to very much abuse; after a few months, they break down and tend to only send sound to one side because the plug and jack do not conduct properly.

Check if it's your cable or something on your ipod by wiggling and moving the cable around while it is playing. If the distortion changes, there's your problem. If it happens in the same place in the song(s) then check your ipod and computer on a good set of speakers outside the car.

 

Disconnect the center speaker too. It just muddies things up.

I do notice though, to play my music through the ipod at a loud level I have to turn my volume all the way up on the car and even at full capacity it isn't that loud. I keep my ipod volume 3/4 up otherwise turned up anymore would distort the sound and make it seem like my speakers blew. Does anybody else get that problem? I get that problem in all cars with an AUX plug maybe it is the AUX wire I am using or maybe it is just how they work. Can anybody tell me if they get the same results?

You can turn up the max volume on your iPod as well by going into its settings ... you may just have the max volume on the iPod set low.

 

you mean going into the individual song setting or there is actually a nother setting for the sound output in the ipod other that just regularly turning it up?

 

I think it is because the headphone-out signal is an audio signal. Audio signals have a signal strength that can be dimmed or amplified. A digital signal (like from the dock) is ones and zeros so signal strength isn't that important.

 

Is this all the time or only when your also charging the iPod from the aux charger in the center console? I had the same issue with my Zune, but only when charger was hooked up. No, it's just in your audio settings somewhere ... forgive me b/c I do not have my iPod on me right now. I believe it's in the audio settings ... it basically just allows you to adjust the max volume allowed when you spin your click wheel.

You could also play around with the EQ on the Ipod. For some of the songs, I have to use "bass reducer" on the EQ. On other songs, "Flat" is best because then you can use the tone controls on the car stereo.

 

Can you verify if it is not the MP3 song itself....like Low bit-rate, bad capture?

If you put the same MP3 (from your iPod) to a CD and play it in the deck, does it sound the same or different?

 

The cd sounds so much better, I usaually end up making cds and listen to them instead of the ipod, unles I go on long trips.

I checked my ipod setting and found no such place to adjust my ipod sound. Maybe it is because my Ipod is the first generation Ipod Photo and doesn't have that feature. oh well. I can't upgrade my itunes anymore because I have an older OSX on my mac. So therfor I can't get a new ipod because it won't work on my old operating system. Soon I will buy a new Mac and New ipod but My motto is , if it ain't broke why replace it??????

I would still try the EQ setting on the iPod. Try "latin". It boosts the highs and the lows.

 

You've come across the same issue I've got. I just dropped some coin on a upgrading to Polk speakers/Kenwood subwoofer/blaupunkt amplifier.

The CD sound I get is awesome. But when I play my IPod, I've got to play it with a flat EQ and manipulate the bass/treble on the stock radio and watch the volume setting (which is just short of full volume) Too much of any one element, I get a kick'n box bass tone. A real pain in the fanny. Like I'm not busy enough drinking coffee, eating a bagle and egg sandwich, talking on the blue tooth and texting on the black berry.

Does anyone make a device that converts the IPod signal to digital that I can play through the stock stereo?

 

This is what you want to try to use for the iPod + AUX connector. The difference between using the dock's line out and the headphone out is enormous and frankly, defies belief. I have the JBL speaker system in my '07 Touring and I find that the iPod with the line-out dock connector is easily on an even footing with what my old burn-to-CD scheme was capable of doing.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/product/B000J022G6?tag=priuschatcom-20 is another company that makes a cable which does Line Out and Power In but they want ~$25 for it which is a bit much for a weeny cable. Search Amazon for "iPod Line Out" and you should come up with a bunch of results.

-EDIT- Just as a note, the dock's line-out completely ignores the iPod's built in audio processor (a likely reason it sounds so good) so changing the iPod volume or EQ settings, etc has no effect.
