    Highly risky as the Porsche folks are fanatically loyal to naturally aspirated flat-6s. The furor over the introduction of 4-cyl turbos was deafening. Was lucky enough to have owned 3 mid-engined Porsches. Wonderful cars. And given what the economy is likely to be like on introduction, doubly risky. (Booms only last so long and we are living on borrowed money.)

    I was fortunate enough to get something of an extended test drive of a 987 Boxster S down Hwy 1/Pacific Coast Highway. It was fantastic, but not quite "special" (I've been fortunate enough to have driven the same route in a couple other sports cars). I was floored when I walked through the Porsche display at the Chicago auto show a few months ago and saw that the Boxster they had on display was $97,000. It's certainly not a slow car or a bad car, but for $97,000 it's a terrible value (sport chrono be damned).

    I'm not a die-hard Porsche enthusiast, but from my perspective, they're priced themselves out of the competition. I can see paying that much for something like a GT4, but for a run-of-the-mill Boxster that you see 10 of everyday? Not a chance. I'd argue that for many people, (despite the fact that the starting MSRP is like $56k) seeing that kind of thing moves their sports cars from the category of "get one if I do well in my career" to "forget about it because I'm not a multi-millionare and I don't play the lottery".

    To be fair, I was at a Ferrari dealer a few weeks ago and they had a special edition California where the ask was like 450k. I'm pretty sure they've had the car for a few years now.
