Audio and Video Input for 2006 Package 1

I've just purchased a 2006 package 1. This has an MFD referred to in the manual as type 3, which I believe is the same as the 2004-2005 MFD, and a single CD without the aux jack in the center storage area. My first question is how to get audio in. I had assumed that there would be an unused input where the aux jack connects on the higher models, but looking at the wiring diagram I have, it appears that there's no input at all for the audio system with a built in amplifier. Does this mean I have to replace the head unit with an external amp? Is there a way to pump audio in over the IE-Bus?

Assuming the display is the same as the 04-05 non-nav mfd, I've seen plenty of references to get video working in my searches here. The problem is that all of these are using the aux video input on the nav system as far as I can tell. I can generate the RGBS signal no problem, but how do I get the mfd to switch to the input that I present to it? (I don't want to use CAN-View)

    Thanks!

    Eagle,
I just traded in my '02 Prius for an 06 with pkg #1, and like you, I would like to connect my MP3 player directly to the missing AUX connector. I was using a cassette adapter in my old car, but that isn't an option in the new car. I didn't see a reply to your original post, but wondered if you have come up with a solution on your own yet.
    Thanks,
    Dan

If the package 1 audio system is indeed identical to the 2004/2005 non JBL system, then you can purchase aux adapters from various sources that plugs into the expansion port in the back of the radio. The IE-Bus is used for control (Toyota calls that AVC network), there's also analog audio inputs that are enabled when selecting an input external to the head unit.

Now if the head unit is comparable to the ones used in mid packages, it could be that the analog aux input normally provided at the console is in the back of the radio, but not connected. If so, then you can probably devise something to make the connection.

    Thanks, DanMan32,
Is there an easy way to tell for sure which head end I have? I suppose I could ask the dealer, but finding someone knowledgable about that could be a challenge. I would think that another 06 owner out there has probably already discovered tha answer. I am an new forum member, and I learned a lot just scanning the back posts. There are a lot of helpful and very savvy owners here. I'll wait a bit and see if there are any more answers.

    All,
I just picked up my 2006 pkg1 last Friday. My stereo is the same as yours in that it has no external input. The one you are talking about is in the upgraded stereo. It will say MP3/WMA on the faceplate in the lower right hand corner. This stereo has the external input in the center console. This input is used for your ipod and other MP3 players. If you figure out a way to get an input from the back of the setero, please post it.
