I've got an '07 package #2. Does anyone have any creative solutions of mounting the TomTom One?

I know that there are ProClips solutions, but it's a little pricey. The little suction cup thing that comes with the TomTom doesn't have enough adhesion to make it stick to that spot just to the left of the MFD on top of the vent cover. It keeps falling off.

An idea I had was to work out some groovy little stand for it that slides out of the CD storage compartment below the stereo. It would be so slick to make something like that, with the power for the unit even being routed via the back of that compartment.

Any other ideas? Any photos???? TomTom or otherwise?

    Thanks,
    Justin

Have you checked into the TomTom Alternate Mount Kit? http://www.tomtom.com/products/accessories...9&Category=

Using the mount kit with the adhesive plate, you could adhere the mount to that spot just to the left of the MFD on top of the vent cover.

BTW, ProClip mounts might be expensive, but they are the best. I have used them in several cars that I have owned and they never fail to impress. The are very well made and are custom designed for each specific application.

I'm still using my stock ONE windshield mount. The Alternative Mount kit that Swanny posted is what I'm considering.

Check out www.tomtomforums.com for extra ideas. Someone found an inexpensive dash solution... I'll find the post later tonight (gotta be somewhere soon) if you haven't found it yet.

I searched the TomTom forums with no results...unfortunately the windshield mount is illegal in California, what a drag.

The simplest dash solution, if you already have a suction cup mount, is to get a dash pad ($2.00) that you can tape to the dash anywhere you want, and put the suction cup onto that.

I did consider that option, but decided to go with the vent solution instead because I didn't want to have the GPS blocking my front window view in any way.

That sounds cool, but can you tell me which vent solution you got? I'd like to even see a photo of it from your car, if that's possible!

Hey politemusic. Here's what I did, but it works for me because listening to the GPS is 90% of my need, rather than looking at it. I just got a garmin and put the adhessive base on the dark plastic beneath the storage compartment below the radio. The suction mount adheres to that base and the unit is mounted very nicely from there. The adhesive mount is also pretty inconspicuous there, if i should remove the mounting bracket for some reason, so I don't feel like I've screwed up the appearance in a permanant way. The voacl directions are so explicit, I don't anticipate more than rare occasions to have to glance at the screen....which certainly takes my eyes off the road more than a dash mount would. I'd suggest trying it out in a temporary way, but the suction probably wouldn't adhere w/o the base.

I bought some velcro tape and put a fuzzy strip along the back side of my Garmin Nuvi on both the left and right sides. Then I put a couple half-inch squares of the opposite side of the tape onto the dashboard right in front of the steering wheel. (Actually I had to layer the small squares of velcro back to back to get them thick enough to reach the tape on the Nuvi.)

I can look through the open top half of the steering wheel to see the map. And it couldn't be easier to put the Nuvi there and take it off again.

I also flipped open the door to the compartment under the radio and put some velcro inside there on the left side, so I can rest the nuvi on the door with it stuck to the side. That's a more convenient location when I want the power cable attached.

Such great tips. Thanks everyone! People seem to get ingenious when it comes to finding clever ways of mounting things.

Here's a (rather fuzzy) picture of my cockpit. Mio on the left, cell phone on the right. The phone holder is just a simple one from Target. Both are charged from the front 12V outlet.

To minimize cable clutter, I bought a dual-tip 12V plug from Gomadic that can be fitted with different tips for different devices. It comes with two tips for which you must specify the device types when you purchase the cable. You can also buy extra tips for whatever other devices you might want to use it for (I got an extra tip for my wife's phone too). A less expensive solution would have been to get a 1-to-3 12V adapter.

ps. Note the HSD emblem stuck on the compartment below the radio :)

I just used the dashboard disk the garmin nuvi 360 came with. It is basically a circular piece of plastic that sticks to the dash. You can then use the suction on it. I put it a few inches behind the vent to the left of the MFD. Now the gps sits right above the vent. Its not blocking the vent, MFD or the windshield in any way. I think this is even better then using a proclip. I plan on having it hard wired this week.

I think I'm just going to go this way and get the Garmin Nuvi 360; seems to be a good one, and for me, it's mandatory that the power is mounted along with the mount, so removing the unit doesn't involve also unplugging it. How's the bluetooth hands-free working for you on that?

If you can trade it back in, the Magellan C2200T fits EXACTLY by friction on the tray door of the
CD compartment, when you swing it to open. We have an '07 with pkg #2, and my wife just loves
this GPS package. The turns are announced with plenty of time in advance, and it actually
names the turn-streets by its name ! The menus are simple and easy to navigate, and concise. Data
easily inputted - not like the older Magellans.

Here is the Magaellan C2200T. We fell into it strictly by luck. The unit is just high enuff to fit the
space provided by the swing down plate for the CD cubby under the MFD. The unit stays in place
strictly by friction. It will not slide nor move when you turn the car nor will it move if you go over
a bump. The power supply is close enuff so that the connecting wire is not hanging all over the front
    passengers feet. This new Magellan
unit is the greatest, not like the older models. This one announces the turns by STREET NAMES, not like
"turn left in 500 feet". The usage is intuitive. Data input is very easy. The cost is right, too, at Costco
    for $249.
