More seriously, the consensus, at least in this thread about the fourth-generation liftback Prius, which has a combination meter similar to the one on the Prius Prime, is that there isn’t a convenient way to change the outside temperature display from °F to °C. It might be possible to replace the meter circuit plate with the Canadian or European version; I don’t know if these are otherwise compatible with U.S.-specification cars.

 

It would likely involve firmware changes too. In fact the difference may be only in the firmware to reduce stocking different meter circuit plates.
Toyota does not release their firmware except as patches to dealers to address specific safety or reliability issues.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there are only two versions of the hardware, for LHD and RHD vehicles, with the firmware loaded before the parts are distributed. There are different part numbers for the meter circuit plate in different markets, and I’d expect they come pre-loaded with the correct firmware. This avoids the need for dealers to do initial programming, which depending on the design, might have to be done over an interface like JTAG or I²C, rather than the CAN bus accessible to a Toyota Techstream diagnostic system in the field.

Yes; that’s one reason I think the only alternative might be to buy the Canadian or European part. The hardware might be identical to the U.S. version, but it would have firmware that displays the temperature in the desired units, assuming it works at all.

 

Canada uses the same speed, economy, and temperature units as Europe. That is why the big fuss over the early 2016 Prius that would not display Km/h. Toyota has said the only solution was to replace the car.

 

Yes, unit conversion from F to C is an option and it was one of my query to one of the sales person, who showed me. It is buried in the settings.

 

In the US the temperature blinks at 37. I have sometimes seen it blink below that.

I think you meant 10C equals 50 F.

All kidding aside, I hear you. It's little things like this that don't make sense. I recently posted wondering why you can set the dash clock to either 12hr or 24hr format -- but the nav clock only displays 12hr format. So yes, some things just don't make sense.

The manuals are not just supplied for added ballast or packing. They actually contain useful information about your vehicle.

Is this true? Is this only for the Prime? I can't seem to find it in the settings of my Two.

 

Don't do that, it will be colder outside once you change form F to C. Instead of 10, it will be -12, much colder

 

The Fahrenheit thing is driving me nuts. I think they did this on some of the units to drive the 7.4 billion of us metric system users crazy! Has ANYONE found a fix for this for real though? And one that doesn't involve SARCASM?
