Not that it's a smart financial decision at all but curious if anyone here plans on trading in their car 2 years in.

I don't plan on trading in my Prime until Toyota releases the next model that gets better electric range and whatever other upgrades come with it.

Once great deals on used model 3s start appearing. Then yes. So maybe like 2 or 3 more years?

Will trade it in for a new Prius when the range is 100 miles or more.
    Gotta have more EV range!

I agree with some of the comments above that I would consider trading when the EV range gets substantially better. This is the first prius I've ever owned and my first hybrid electric vehicle. I think it's kind of a gateway drug for me to go all electric but the range just isn't there. I live in a rural area with very few charging stations and we have to drive long distances if we want to go anywhere.

I’ve been keeping cars for for about 6 years, except for the 3 year lease on the Fiat 500e EV. I then offer them up to family.

Having said that, my daughter / son-in-law took delivery of a Model 3 last Saturday. What a car! Of course it’s $25K more expensive that the Prime.

Too much can change in terms of battery technology, EV range, resale value, our financial situation and other factors to say for sure. That said I bought a Prime in July and I don't see any chance I'd trade it in for at least 5 years, probably more.

I think the shortest period of time we've kept any of our Toyotas was 20 years. The longest was 32 because I wanted to sell it to someone who was going to rebuild it (it still ran and passed smog checks btw).

We "recycle" (down cycle?) our hybrids to the kids or grand kids every other year, but like this one so much that we may hang onto it a tad longer. Of course, if killer deals pop up at the end of the 2019 cycle...

No plans on trading in my Prime, but will be passing it onto my kids once my HOV sticker expires in 2022.

I plan to keep mine for the duration of the life of the vehicle (as Toyota would say ). Gonna be my go to car for a long time. We also have an Audi SUV for trips, and a 2019 Miata ND ST GT-S MT (on order—ETA late May) for smile drives . But the Prime is my go to ride—and I plan to drive it until it dies—and a battery failure in and of itself does not qualify. I will replace the battery and keep on trucking.

We're very happy with the Prime and plan to keep it for a while. As with most cars we've owned, when we purchased the Prime we extended the service agreement to five years which I believe is the "technology horizon" when the car is likely to start to feel obsolete.

If Toyota were to introduce a new model with fifty miles or more of EV range, it might convince me to trade in (up) sooner.
